Our special outstanding school is constantly growing, providing a supportive, nurturing learning environment for more and more children. Due to this expansion we have an opportunity for you to be a part of a multi-disciplinary team of dedicated friendly Teachers, Therapists and Learning Support Assistants.

What the role involves:

The DT Technician will join our Design & Technology Team, supporting children in KS3 and KS4 who have speech and language and communication difficulties. 

You will play a key role in supporting teaching staff as well as ordering and preparing project materials and general resources to support the department, including the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.

The role involves working with a wide range of equipment and resources.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Supporting our students can sometimes be challenging, mental and physical resilience are qualities necessary for all our staff.
  • Be able to work on their own initiative as well as be a team player.
  • Have the ability to build good working relationships with children, teachers, parents and carers.
  • Have experience of working with children with Special Education Needs (SEN) (desirable).
  • Have experience of working as a DT Technician or equivalent learning support role within a Design Technology class.
  • Be able to manage groups of children and cope with challenging behaviour.
  • Essential qualifications and training include a GCSE, a Teaching Assistant qualification would be desirable, but is not essential.
  • Accredited or willing to work towards DT workshop H&S accreditation.
  • Be able to promote positive behaviour in a nurturing environment.
  • Be well organised with the ability to work independently, taking responsibility for managing routine safety and maintenance checks.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and numeracy skills.


The role is a Permanent, Term-Time only role

Monday to Friday (08:30 – 17:00) – part-time considered

(approx. 36 teaching weeks per annum)

No working required during school holidays

Salary from: £23,222 pro rata, increasing depending on experience (£19,000 salary for term-time, 36 weeks pa)

To Start: ASAP or September 2023
