The Department
The Physical Education (PE) Department at Dunottar is a dynamic, forward-thinking team committed to fostering a love and passion for sport and physical activity. Through innovative and enthusiastic teaching, the department ensures students experience both enjoyment and excellence in their physical education. Pupils engage in over three hours of structured physical activity each week, supported by an extensive co-curricular programme. Sporting fixtures are predominantly scheduled on Saturday mornings, with a robust calendar covering all major sports, including netball, cricket, rugby, and football. In addition, students have the opportunity to study AQA GCSE PE and A-Level PE, providing a comprehensive pathway for those wishing to pursue sports-related studies.
The Role
Working Hours: Monday 12:00 – 17:30, Tuesday, Thursday 12:00 – 17:30, Friday 12:00 – 16:00, Saturday 08:00 – 12:00. Totalling 25.5 hours per week.
We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and enthusiastic individual to join the PE team at Dunottar School from September 2025. This role will involve assisting in the delivery of Games lessons across a variety of sports, helping to inspire and engage students in their physical education. In addition to supporting the teaching of Games, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the effective and efficient use of the school's sporting facilities, ensuring they are well-maintained and ready for use by both pupils and staff. Key Responsibilities
- To support with the delivery of Games and co-curricular programme across a variety of sports.
- To be responsible for a sports team on a Saturday morning, including officiating fixtures.
- To set up and put away equipment appropriate to the activities taking place as advised by members of the Dunottar School Physical Education department.
- To maintain the stock of school equipment and informing the Director of Sport when numbers of items (balls, cones, rackets etc) are low.
- To ensure all first aid bags are fully stocked and equipped with the items required.
- To organise the sports storage cupboards at Dunottar School and ORRFC, ensuring each sport has its place.
- To undertake basic minor maintenance and repairs to sporting equipment.
- To set out rooms and sport pitches as required at Dunottar School’s main site and at ORRFC.
- To ensure match day bags are made and readily available for staff in a timely manner.
- To help with the organisation of match teas on a Saturday.
Person Specification
Essential Qualities:
- Strong leadership skills in a sports setting.
- A valid, clean driving licence.
- Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Relevant experience in sports or a related field.
- A proactive attitude, with a genuine passion for contributing to the aims of the Sports Department.
- Competence in ICT, literacy, and numeracy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
- A positive role model, demonstrating enthusiasm and professionalism.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Willingness to take on administrative duties as required.
- Commitment to upholding high standards of behaviour and professionalism.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work outside of standard hours when needed.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding young people.
- Willingness to undergo basic first aid training.
Desirable Qualities:
- Previous experience in a sports leadership role.
- Knowledge of the setup and requirements for a variety of sports (e.g. Football, Rugby, Cricket, Netball).
- Relevant sports-related qualifications.
- Familiarity with Health & Safety protocols in a sporting environment.
