Job overview

Support Services for Education – SEN & Vulnerable Learners

Ethnic Minority Achievement & Traveller Education Service

Countywide

Full Time.

Fixed term contract - Maternity cover (9 – 12 months)

About Us

This is an exciting opportunity to join Support Services for Education, to cover an existing member of staff whilst on maternity leave. The Ethnic Minority Achievement and Traveller Education Service are looking for an EAL Advisory Teacher to work in this busy and hardworking team. This is a varied role which aims to raise standards of achievement for those minority ethnic pupils or groups who are at risk of underachieving.

About the Job

The role will involve providing specialist training and support to staff pertaining to the achievement of Ethnic Minority learners, including those learning English as an additional language. You will help build capacity in schools by supporting Teaching Assistants, EAL Co-ordinators, teachers, subject leaders and head teachers as appropriate. You will be responsible for line managing a number of EAL Support Advisors and directing their work in schools. Additionally, you will provide specialised assessments in schools for identified children whose first language is not English and deliver training courses, workshops and termly network meetings for teachers. As a partially traded Service, other areas of work may include developing training and resource packages to deliver and sell to schools that will raise outcomes for pupils. You will also be expected to actively look for new traded work opportunities and promote all other SSE services.

About You

Flexibility and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the service is a necessary part of the role, making a positive and committed attitude a necessity. Ideally you will start from February half term but an Easter start date would also be considered.
