Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an EAL Co-ordinator for the Academy.  This will be a temporary contract for one year.  The hours will be 37 per week for 39 weeks per year.


Purpose

To work under the guidance of the SENCO within an agreed system of supervision, to provide specialist support for EAL students both individual or small groups, in or out of the classroom.  This will involve supporting with the assessment and induction of new arrivals, delivering spelling, reading and writing interventions as needed.  English Language teaching programmes and the management/preparation of resources, implementing specific work programmes including assessment, evaluation and record keeping.


Main responsibilities include:

Support for pupils

• To develop a clear understanding of the specific needs of identified EAL pupils. 

• To support EAL pupils through the delivery of specific learning programmes and to contribute to setting targets and to track data to monitor progress. 


Support for teachers

• To provide support for Class Teachers in the management and organisation of EAL pupils in the classroom and withdrawn in small groups and in one to one situations.

• To work closely with the Teacher to assist in the planning, development and delivery of all areas of the curriculum for identified EAL pupils.


Support for the curriculum

• To assist in the development of basic/advanced literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and support the use of these learning activities.

• To help adapt and plan the development of resources necessary to lead learning activities, taking into account pupils’ interests, language and cultural backgrounds.


Support for the Academy/Trust

• To support and deliver the welcome/induction programme and initial assessments for new arrivals.

• To communicate as appropriate with staff and parents/carers regarding the learning needs of EAL pupils.
