English as an Additional Language support / Cover Teacher

Prasarnmit Primary International Programme, seeks a fully qualified, experienced and inspirational  teacher with a passion to work with EAL/ESL children. We are looking for applicants who are energetic, highly inspired and motivated, who are passionate about childcare and education, committed to achieving high standards and creating a stimulating, positive and child-centred learning environment.


Minimum qualification requirements:

B.Ed (Hons) with QTS or equivalent (e.g. PGCE, PGDE)


Main Job and Responsibilities:

  • To support students in FS /KS1 or KS2
  • To cover absent teachers when needed from FS/KS1 or KS2
  • When providing cover support, ensure that plans left by the classroom teacher are followed, and that all assessment and marking is completed
  • To provide a comprehensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) Service. This will include consultation, case formulation, assessment and interventions related to learning, and working with children who use English as an Additional Language
  • To carry out daily interventions and observations of children who have been identified as having additional needs, as well as assisting with teaching phonics to small groups of children
  • To ensure that planning, assessments and observations are completed to a high standard, reviewed, and appropriately communicated to line managers and parents
  • To provide both written reports and informal dialogue to parents on the development, progress, and attainment of children
  • To monitor the progress of children that are being worked with and advise other staff members in how to maximise learning opportunities for them (IEPs, ILPs etc)
  • To work in partnership with others to maximise effectiveness, raise standards and plan appropriate interventions to meet the needs of learners, and improve pupil outcomes
  • To build and maintain professional relationships with the school community


Skills/Abilities:

  • Have an interest in EAL learners and have experience and training in supporting children with these types of needs
  • Have an understanding about children’s development of cognition, and how to maximise this, especially in young children
  • Use teaching methods which capture pupils’ interest, maintain their engagement and encourage them to develop a life long love of learning
  • Ability to organise and manage a class to promote an effective learning environment through excellent classroom management and behaviour management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience or knowledge of planning lessons and activities for EAL learners
  • Ability to work as a part of a team in planning and implementing the school’s curriculum, strategic plans and policies
  • To be able to show resilience and cope with the demands of working in a different culture
  • A commitment to further your own professional development and to the principle of continuous improvement.
  • A commitment to upholding high standards of child safety and safeguarding, and acting responsibly at all times
  • A commitment to representing the school both inside and outside of the classroom, and to upholding the high standards of respect engrained in Thai culture and international mindedness
  • Be able to think creatively, use own initiative and think critically to provide the best possible opportunities for the children at our school


Requirements:

  • At least 1 year’s teaching experience
  • Fluent level English speaker
  • Knowledge of the UK National Curriculum is essential
  • Up to date DBS or police check equivalent to work with children
  • Experience of working with EAL learners is essential
  • Knowledge of the UK Foundation Stage Curriculum (Development Matters) or equivalent is an advantage
  • English as an Additional Language training is an advantage
  • Previous experience working as or alongside a EAL/ESL teacher is an advantage
  • Knowledge of the IEYC / IPC curriculum is an advantage
  • Experience of teaching Read Write Inc. phonics programme or alternative is an advantage


Contract type:

  • 2 year contract (renewable)
