EAL Teacher –  GORDONSTOUN INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a prestigious and well established Summer School for children aged 8-16 from approximately 35 nationalities.  Gordonstoun has a beautiful campus and staff can take full advantage of the lovely local area.  Many of the existing staff return each year and enjoy the courses just as much as the students!

Course I: 3rd July – 29th July /  Course II: 11th July – 5th August

English as an Additional Language Teacher

The Gordonstoun International Summer School (GISS) was founded in 1976 and is now widely recognised as offering one of the world's most prestigious summer programmes.  300 boys and girls from over 40 countries currently attend GISS each year. 

Role Overview:

The EAL department is a critical academic course for the Summer School with classes and activities timetabled into the evening and weekends.  The age range of the students is 8-16, classes sizes are approximately 6-8 students and are streamed by ability.    

The role is responsible to the Head of Studies.  The EAL teacher will plan and manage high quality English lessons ensuring students are kept engaged and motivated.  Teachers are encouraged to provide their own class plans and to work with the students preferences to some extent.  A range of resources is provided and the head of studies will provide support to agree in greater detail how the subject is presented. A comprehensive library of up-to-date teaching resources and equipment is available. WiFi is enabled throughout the campus.

Outside of the classroom activities, this role is also expected to participate in supporting and managing other activities which are part of the summer school, for example taking trips or supervising a recreational activity on site.

Courses (including mandatory staff induction) will run as follows:  

Wednesday 3rd July to Monday 29th July 2019   

Thursday 11th July to Monday 5th August 2019

Competitive Salary, accommodation and full board are provided.

Qualifications  

Applicants must have as a minimum a degree plus an accredited EFL qualification (such as RSA CELTA, DELTA or MA TESOL).  At least one year’s EFL teaching experience is required.

The School

Location
Gordonstoun stands in 200 acres of woodland, within walking distance of sandstone cliffs and sandy beaches on the beautiful coast of the Moray Firth in Scotland. Six miles away is the historic city of Elgin. Lossiemouth nearby is well known for its picturesque harbour, fine golf courses and Royal Air Force Station. The City of Aberdeen is about 90 minutes drive away, while an hour's drive takes you to the ski resort of Aviemore at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains. Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is forty miles away and is itself only about an hour away from London (Gatwick) by air.
