EAL Teacher

You will be comfortable teaching English as an Additional Language to secondary school students from Year 7 up to A Levels and have experience of the IELTS examinations. 

At any one time, Lucton has between 40 and 50 overseas students for whom English is a second language and those not able to take standard English at GCSE take Second Language English at IGCSE, which will need to be delivered to Years 10 and 11 as classroom teaching. In addition, much of the teaching is delivered as either small groups or one-to-one.

Most of Lucton’s overseas Year 13 leavers move on to UK universities, so ensuring that they achieve the required IELTS score is essential.

You will have an appropriate degree and a teaching qualification or QTS. The ability and enthusiasm to teach a second subject at a lower level will be helpful. Sciences, Maths or Economics would be useful, but all possible secondary subjects will be considered. Depending upon experience and qualifications, there is also the possibility of managing the department.
