A school like no other, Wellington College is one of the world’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools and has an enviable reputation for excellence and innovation. We’re currently looking for an EAL Teacher with excellent subject knowledge to join our EAL team.

The EAL team is part of our Academic Support Department, which is responsible for tracking, monitoring and assessing pupils with Specific Learning difficulties in line with JCQ regulations. The department aims to provide a holistic approach to supporting all pupils with their academic and pastoral needs. Join us, and you could soon be responsible for overseeing EAL provision at the College.

There are two main strands to this role – pre-entry and on-entry. Pre-entry, you’ll be responsible for contacting overseas pupils and their parents and working closely with Admissions to support applications and complete paperwork. You’ll also liaise with UK Prep Schools identify and support any EAL pupils with Admissions. On-entry, you’ll meet with our Pastoral team to promote a smooth transition and again, help with paperwork. Over and above these duties, we’ll also rely on you to meet with pupils and their families on pre-entry visits and work closely with the Head of Academic Support, Head of EAL and SEND post-entry to identify pupils who may require additional tuition. And, when it comes to providing tutorial support and timetabled lessons, again, we'll count on you to deliver.

As well as an appropriate honours degree from a recognised university, you’ll need an EAL teaching qualification and teaching experience of curriculum EAL as well as additional support EAL (1:1, small group and in-class support). Awareness of, and up-to-date training in safeguarding is also required, as is knowledge of examination specifications and requirements and appropriate teaching and learning strategies. Someone who enjoys thinking outside the box and planning exciting and innovative lessons, you're great at motivating and enthusing pupils and work collaboratively with colleagues too. What's more, you're calm under pressure, resilient and keen to contribute to co-curricular activity plans.
