Job overview

Early Years Leader

Start date: September 2023

Main teacher pay scale (inner London) + TLR2a

The Quality First Education (Q1E) Trust is seeking an experienced, ambitious Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Leader (and excellent class teacher) to join The Alton School in Roehampton.

We are a one-form entry school. The Early Years leader will teach in either the nursery class or the reception class, with some agreed release time to undertake their leadership role.

Our Early Years Leader will:

  • Be a fantastic teacher who will help all our children achieve and succeed, as well as helping other staff to grow and flourish in their roles.
  • Have experience and a good knowledge of EYFS curriculum, planning and assessment.
  • Have some previous experience of successfully leading within the EYFS.
  • Work well with others, both within The Alton and across our trust.

In addition to their class teacher duties, the EYFS lead will:

  • Share and model outstanding teaching practice to other staff.
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the EYFS, including resources, support staff, assessments, trips, procedures and parent communications (and work with the school senior leadership team to review and improve these).
  • Monitor pupil attainment and progress, and report data to senior leaders as required.
  • Plan and lead school-based EYFS phase meetings at The Alton, and contribute actively to cross-Trust meetings.
  • Liaise with other colleagues in school to ensure a smooth transition for all pupils from Early Years to Key Stage 1.
  • Work in partnership with a group of supportive colleagues across the Q1E trust to ensure the further development and implementation of our high quality EYFS curriculum.

At Q1E, we believe that “the quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers” (McKinsey 2007). The recruitment, retention and development of high quality teachers is our highest priority.

About The Alton

Ofsted say that:

·        Pupils come to school happily.

·        Leaders and staff support every pupil to reach their full potential.

·        Pupils achieve well in a range of subjects.

·        Staff benefit from regular training to develop their expertise.

The Alton is an inclusive primary school right next to Richmond Park in south west London. We are also home to a resource base for children with moderate learning difficulties. We have a fantastic staff team and a supportive parent/carer community. We offer a high quality, well-resourced and carefully structured provision, within an excellent broad and balanced curriculum. We strive to meet the needs of all children – doing ‘Whatever It Takes’ to help children fulfil their potential - and we are proud to hold UNICEF's Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award.

About the Q1E trust

The Alton is part of the Q1E trust. We are a dynamic, successful trust of four south London primary schools. We work closely together through joint planning, development and support.

The Q1E trust provides clear structures, excellent resources and outstanding professional development for staff. This starts with central induction training in July (in negotiation with your current school), before you start in post in September - so you feel really supported and prepared.

We are an outward facing trust and we believe in learning from the best schools and systems - you will have lots of opportunity to watch outstanding practice and get involved in wider projects across our dynamic Trust.

More information: Please read the attached Q1E Teacher pack for more information about the fantastic support and opportunities we offer to teachers, and visit The Alton's website to find out more about us.

Visit us: We encourage you to email us at recruitment@q1e.org.uk to arrange to visit The Alton before you apply, and/or to have a chat with the headteacher, Linsay Thomson, about the role. We'd love to show you around our wonderful school.

Apply: Please complete our application form and submit this, together with the equal opportunities monitoring form, by email directly to recruitment@q1e.org.uk by 9am on Monday 24th April 2023. We do not accept CVs.

Please note that all our posts are subject to a full DBS check with a barred list check. It is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

If you share our drive to provide an excellent quality first education for all, we really hope to hear from you.
