Job overview

Following the recent promotion of the current postholder, the States of Guernsey are looking to appoint with effect from 1 September 2019 a dynamic teacher with the experience to lead and take responsibility for the work of the Early Years Foundation Stage and to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of Vauvert Primary School.

The person appointed will be employed by the States of Guernsey and will be based at Vauvert Primary School.

The Foundation Stage Leader will play a key strategic role in the continued success of the school. This will be achieved through the use of highly effective leadership, management and organisational skills, in collaboration with all staff members, and close working relationship with the Senior Leadership Team and the Key Stage 1 team, and directly with the Foundation Stage team. S/he will contribute in raising the standards of teaching and learning and the progress of Foundation Stage pupils, through the effective leadership and management and exemplifying the best teaching. S/he will need to demonstrate highly effective skills in understanding the best strategies for improving provision and outcomes in the Foundation Stage, and highly effective people skills in working with pupils, parents, colleagues, agencies and pre-schools.

The post holder needs to know when to lead, when to follow, when to intervene, when to support and when to challenge. They need to be very aware of the different personalities of the individuals in their immediate phase team, and the wider school staff, in order to ensure the improvements in the school are mutually successful. S/he will continue to build upon the strong curriculum provision in the Foundation Stage, the effective relationships with parents and the community, whilst looking to further the improvements to the Foundation Stage.

This is a varied, busy and key role for Vauvert Primary School, where the successful candidate will be able to make a real difference for our pupils. The successful candidate will benefit from the positive, mutually co-operative working environment where the children are at the centre of everything we do. S/he will be working within a shared, focussed School Development Plan that provides clearly sequenced and equally focussed staff CPD opportunities. The school is pleased to have achieved the Investors in People award.

The children enjoy an engaging and rich curriculum and learning environment.Pupils are enthusiastic, hard-working, very well behaved and keen to keep improving on their Personal Best. Pupils know that all staff are there to support and challenge them, that the staff know them well as individuals, and thus feel safe and looked after well.Growth Mindset is a key component in what makes us what we are.

We are very proud of the work at Vauvert Primary School, and would therefore be very keen to show around prospective candidates.
