The job holder has responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head or indeed to the Regional CEO so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third party services.

The British School of Barcelona

The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a great school in a great location. We are an HMC school and were judged by BSO (British Schools Overseas) Inspection, to be outstanding in many areas, including Safeguarding, pupil welfare, pupil progress and outcomes.

BSB is a large, very popular, all-age school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Nearly 1600 pupils from over 50 nationalities attend the school and over 250 staff work at BSB. We are based in two locations just outside the city of Barcelona – in Castelldefels, and in the cosmopolitan town of Sitges.

Significant investment in the school in recent years has seen the building of a state-of –the art Pre-University Centre (Nexus), a theatre, new science laboratories and 2019 will see the opening of a full-sized AstroTurf sports pitch and sports stadium.

The Location

The school enjoys a location to the south of Barcelona, one of the most vibrant, culturally-rich cities in the world. Both the Castelldefels (Primary and Secondary) and the Sitges (Primary) campuses are minutes away from beautiful beaches and are excellently connected by public transport.

The Role

We are looking for teachers who have experience of:

* Teaching the English Primary National Curriculum

* Setting high expectations which engage, motivate and challenge pupils.

* Planning and teaching lessons which are creative and inspire awe and wonder.

* Monitoring and being accountable for pupils’ attainment, progress and outcomes.

* Setting high expectations of positive attitudes to learning.

* Communicating effectively with parents with regard to pupils’ achievements and wellbeing.

* Making a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of a school.

* Continuously challenging themselves to improve, progress and be the best teacher they can possibly be.

BSB City is now open in the Foundation campus, an inspirational school located in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi for our youngest students.

September 2023 will see the opening of the spectacular BSB City Main Campus which will extend our provision in Barcelona for students up to Pre-University

BSB Castelldefels campus offers purpose-built, modern facilities for students in Early Years, Primary and Secondary. This optimal setting supports and enhances effective teaching and learning that lead to consistently high standards of achievement.

BSB Nexus is a purpose-built campus for students aged 16 to 18. Located in Castelldefels, very close to the BSB Castelldefels campus, it provides a real-world Pre-University experience where distinct study and social spaces support independent study and encourage the development of the 21st century skills as they prepare for university and their future careers.

BSB Sitges offers a unique learning environment for Early Years (from 2-year-olds) and Primary children. The thoughtfully designed facilities provide quality learning experiences and a safe, supportive school environment where children can thrive.
