Foundation Stage
Our Foundation Stage block is one of the happiest places in our school. The thing that will strike you most about walking into it is how calm it is, in spite of the ages of the children we promote focussed learning at all times. We have just improved our planning; all our teams plan together to share ideas and promote the best provision for our assessments.  Continuous provision is now being implemented throughout the Foundation Stage and the ‘Read Write Inc’ scheme has also been introduced to the children in Foundation Stage this year in order to ensure consistency and progression throughout the school.  Our team was the first to host a ‘Qatar Spark’ training event which was specifically targeted on improving and sharing ideas within the Foundation Stage.
Each of our classes has a full time Teaching Assistant and we have 22 students in each class. We are well resourced with a focus on Learning through Play. Our students have specialist Arabic, Music and PE teachers. We have designed our own Arabic Curriculum which promotes the enjoyment of the language using the Foundation Stage criteria and ethos of learning.
Our colleagues are great, we all work well together and often socialise out of school together. When the weather allows it, we make full use of the covered outdoor area which has play equipment and various activities for the children to enjoy. We also have a shared indoor area with books and a large play area. All of our classes are well resourced, bright and stimulating. Interruptions to learning are kept to a minimum as management see their role as supportive to the students’ learning. The emphasis here at QIS is truly focussed on the children in our care.

About Qatar International School

Qatar International School is a British International private school located in Doha, the capital city of the State of Qatar. The school follows the latest National Curriculum of England and Wales for students ranging between 3 and 18 years of age.

The school is led and managed by British professionals and it strives to maintain the highest standards of the current British education system, whilst also supporting its Arabic culture and international context.

Our long and illustrious history traces its roots back over 40 years to 1977, making us the oldest British International School in Qatar. Under the leadership of our Executive Principal, Deane Baker (who joined us in September 2013), we have achieved various national and international accreditations at the highest levels. We hold numerous high achievement awards for our international examination success.

Education is highly valued in Qatar. This means our school enjoys working with extremely supportive parents and wonderfully enthusiastic, highly motivated students.

Children are taught in Key Stages from KS1 through to KS5 and examinations are taken in GCSE, IGCSE and A Levels using UK examination boards. The vast majority of students leaving QIS move onto higher education in leading universities all over the world but most especially the UK, USA, Canada, UAE, and Qatar itself. The vast majority of teaching staff are UK-trained, and the school prides itself on ensuring it keeps up to date with the best international practice in education and learning.

In 2001 the school moved to its current, purpose-built campus in the Diplomatic Quarter of Dafna, close to the skyscrapers and business centre of West Bay. Here, under the ownership of the founder’s son, Sheikh Khalid bin Ali bin Ahmad Al Thani, the school continues to thrive – expanding and developing its excellent specialist facilities. These include science laboratories, ICT suites, a swimming pool, playing fields, and a large sports hall.

Our student body is truly international, with over 60 different nationalities represented within the current cohort. While the teaching staff are predominantly from the UK and the curriculum is taught in English, the school is adept at integrating students from a wide variety of cultural and academic backgrounds.
