Job overview

Welcome to Worsborough Bank End Primary School. Thank you for taking an interest in developing your career at our school – Bank End offers a vibrant and welcoming learning community for any member of staff joining us.

Bank End Primary School is a community school in every sense of the word. We proudly sit in the Worsbrough and Kendray locality where we enjoy strong partnerships with Hunningley Primary School and Barnsley Academy, working together as part of United Learning.

Worsbrough Bank End Primary School is a 'can-do' school, where we find ways to help everybody reach their potential, because every person really matters. We believe there are four factors that make a child’s education successful and enable them to achieve the very highest of standards: the best possible care, encouragement, education and outcomes. At Bank End, our team work hard to ensure that everyone makes those four outcomes a reality for our children every single day.

We pride ourselves on a team of staff who are supportive, friendly and dedicated to providing the very best teaching and learning for our students. Staff across the school set a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement for children which, in turn, is reflected in the emphasis we place on continuing professional development (CPD) for our staff.

If you are looking for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career, we encourage you to visit us in person to see what you could achieve at Bank End Primary School. Join our team and let's work on a great future, for everyone.

If you are a highly professional Early Years Teacher with great energy, enthusiasm and a relentless focus on high standards, we have an exciting opportunity to develop your career as part of our school.

As an Early Years Teacher, you will make a valuable contribution through substantial and appropriate teaching commitments in our Reception class. As a role model for the school community, you will raise levels of pupil achievements and help to create a positive learning environment. We will look to you to create a commitment to learning, which enthuses children and gives them the motivation to do well. You will support every child, helping them to become the best they can be.

As well as your experience and qualifications, your personal qualities will set you apart and make you an ideal candidate to join our collaborative community. You will bring to the role genuine enthusiasm and hope, with a passionate desire to make a difference. Crucially, you are highly professional and will thrive in a ‘no excuses’ culture. You have a core belief that every single child, irrespective of background and starting points, can and will be successful in their learning.

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Please note that for this post you will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Worsborough Bank End Primary School is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

General Information

Worsbrough Bank End Primary School services the wider community of Worsbrough and Kendray, an area of mostly social housing located approximately one mile to the east of Barnsley town centre.  Historically a community living with the long term effects of high levels of unemployment, lack of community confidence and low educational attainment, the community is now starting to turn a corner with decreasing levels of crime, investment in social housing and increasing local opportunities for engaging with the communities.

Ethos

This is a very caring and supportive school providing a safe, secure environment.  We are dedicated to raising confidence and self esteem in all our pupils.  We set high expectations for both learning and behaviour and provide appropriate support to achieve those aims.

Our Youngsters are well mannered, polite and respectful and generally behave well.  The whole staff team work together to challenge, motivate and enthuse our children to value education and prepare them for adult life.

Teaching and Learning

All staff are committed to providing high quality teaching and learning, they approach new initiatives with enthusiasm drive and commitment and continually strive to raise standards.

Over the last four years staff have worked hard to develop teaching and learning, which has resulted in the school adopting accelerated learning techniques, mind mapping and social and emotional development.  The curriculum has been changed to meet the needs of our pupils and break down the barriers to learning.  Staff work hard to impact on pupil achievement.

Parents and Community

The school encourages parent and community involvement at all levels and this continues to be an area of development, since parents, although they engage with school, can be reluctant to be involved in their childrens learning.

Work is well underway to address the Every Child Matters agenda and the leadership team is working hard to plan and develop the extended schools agenda in order that the community receive all support mechanisms they require, some of the agencies involved in this development are, Sure Start, Social Services, School Health, The Stairfoot and Worsbrough Locality Well Being Team, YMCA, PCT, LPT and United Learning Trust.
