Job overview

Croydon is a distinctive and diverse place and is London’s most populated borough. Croydon is about to undergo the biggest development and regeneration programme since the 1960s with £3bn of investment flowing into the borough over the next five years, building a positive future for residents and businesses alike.

We are passionate about the value of public services and our new headquarters has the customer at the heart of what we do. It brings together 75 services including council, Met Police, NHS, Jobcentre Plus, Croydon Credit Union and Citizens Advice Bureau under one roof, allowing us all to work together as one team.

This makes now an exciting time to join our team delivering vital services to over 360,000 residents.

Croydon has the largest population of children and young people under 18 in London and has over 100 Primary and Secondary schools with high levels of movement and demographic change. There is evidence of increasing demand for specialist school placements and the Council is investing £35 million in a capital programme to increase the supply of specialist places and develop a more varied range of provision, including an increase in specialist Early Years placements.

As a direct result of the implementation of the Children and Families Act (2014), Croydon’s SEND team has extended its remit and is now a combined 0-25 Service. In 2016, the service will combine with wider social care teams to become part of a new directorate; the All Age Disability Service 0-65. This is an exciting time to join Croydon’s SEN teams!

We are seeking to recruit an Early Years SEND Team Manager to lead and manage the early years team to deliver the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice (2014). You will be someone who is used to challenging and being challenged by experienced professionals, using all available information to get the best outcomes for children under 5.

You will need to be familiar with the current Special Educational Needs Code of Practice and a broader understanding of the Children and Families Act.

You will want to be part of a service whose overarching aim is to make a clear difference to outcomes for children. If this is you we would like to talk with you!
