Job overview

About the Post

We are looking for the very best teachers there are.  Experience of working in top British schools, particularly in the UK but of course also internationally, is very important and UK teaching qualifications essential.  Our teachers need an unquenchable desire to make things better: excellent knowledge, skills and understanding are requirements, but we are always trying to improve, to redefine, to grow.  If you simply like the idea of doing what you have always done – or what everyone else always does – but with nicer weather and great beaches nearby, this is the wrong school for you.  Yes, the weather and beaches are great; but we are here to do a better job than any of us thought possible!

About Wellington College

Founded by Queen Victoria and opened in 1859, Wellington College was created to honour the memory of the first Duke of Wellington, who not only defeated Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo in 1815 but also went on to serve the country as peacetime Prime Minister.  Nearly 160 years later, the Tatler calls Wellington ‘clearly a leader in the world of education’ and it is, without doubt, one of the top schools in the UK and across the globe.

About Wellington College Bangkok

Wellington College Bangkok opened its doors for the first time in August 2018.  Whilst the school itself is new, it has a wealth of experience: the first Wellington College international school, in Tianjin, China, was founded in 2011 and since then further schools in Shanghai and Hangzhou have opened with great success.  Building in part on this experience, in May 2019 WCIB became the first school in the world to gain full COBIS Patron’s Accreditation within its first year of operation: evidence of both excellence and great ambition.

In Bangkok, a city with an extraordinary number of excellent UK-based schools of the highest quality, Wellington already stands with the best.  The school is built adjacent to the lush and attractive Unico Grande Golf Club, in the emergingly upscale suburb of Krungthep Kreetha and its design, inside and out, sets it apart as one of the most stimulating, forward-thinking and dynamic schools you will find anywhere.

Facilities, from the sports pitches (grass and artificial), 400m running track and the aquatic complex (which includes a full 50m Olympic pool) to the spacious classrooms with their adjoining Learning Studios, the amazing Library and the co-working spaces and Harkness Rooms of the upper Prep School, are some of the most exciting you will see.  Our beautiful 600-seat theatre will be opened in early 2020 and the full Senior School building, featuring our unique co-working study spaces, all-floor Library and a raft of innovative areas, will open the following year.

How to Apply

Please click here  to access our online application form.  (Do not use the TES default application.)  Please also send an up-to-date CV and a full letter of application, addressed to the Master, to recruitment@wellingtoncollege.ac.th.  Closing date for applications is Sunday 29th September 2019.  Please note that, given the large number of applications we receive for each post, only longlisted applicants will be contacted.

Longlisted candidates will be interviewed via Skype on a rolling basis (please note that longlisting begins before the deadline for applications); UK-based teachers on the shortlist may be asked to permit lesson observation in their current schools, which will likely take place in early October, followed by final interviews at Wellington College in Berkshire.  If you would like your teaching to be considered before this date, or if you are not currently teaching in the UK, please prepare a 30-minute, unedited video of you teaching a class.  WCIB will agree to all reasonable safeguarding requirements in this regard; please contact recruitment@wellingtoncollege.ac.th for further details of this process and note that you must obtain the permission of your Head Teacher before you share a video with us.

Wellington College Bangkok is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its students. Applicants will be required to submit a current police criminal clearance check or equivalent from their home country or current country of residence prior to appointment; further checks of any applicant’s full career history, national and international, will also be made.

Wellington College Bangkok

Wellington College Bangkok’s mission is to deliver the most exceptional international education in Thailand—and across the region. We are proud and thrilled to be able to provide a very important piece in the jigsaw of Bangkok’s growing prominence as a Southeast Asian hub, and we are delighted to welcome families of all nationalities.

Our School is purpose-built on an expansive greenfield campus. The buildings, designed by world-class architects, are airy and modern yet retain echoes of the grandeur of the past. Our sports provision includes a full Olympic-size 50-metre pool, a huge gymnasium, a 400-metre track, sports pitches, basketball and tennis courts, indoor and outdoor golf facilities. Our fully-equipped classrooms, Learning Studios, Reading Rooms, Harkness rooms, Faculty Salons, our extraordinary 600-seat Theatre, our stylish Copenhagen Café (named after the Duke of Wellington’s favourite horse), our equally chic Café 1815, as well as the recreation areas—the green of the trees and the grass, the blue of the water—all play their part in making the experience of being at Wellington unique, exciting and, on top of that, fun.

The global family of Wellington Colleges—in the UK, China, here in Thailand, and shortly in India—has a very strong reputation for the development of academic excellence, international-mindedness, leadership, responsibility, service to others, outstanding pastoral provision and an exceptionally rich programme of co-curricular activities.

Our values grow from those of our close partner school, the world-renowned Wellington College in Berkshire. It is a fundamental principle that every child can thrive when provided with outstanding, wide-ranging and open-ended opportunities to develop, explore and learn. Our students’ individual responses to these opportunities, shepherded by some of the best teachers in the world and supported by our uniquely dedicated pastoral teams, can set them on the path to extraordinary academic achievement—which, at Wellington, routinely goes hand-in-hand with excellence in performing and visual arts, sport and service to others. This is what it means for the whole child to flourish.
