Job overview

Job description:

Teaching at LUC involves educating the whole child; nurturing the  children, developing their academics, character, health and their emotional  wellbeing. In addition to this, we are mindful of the fact that language is the  means by which we all communicate with, and interpret, the world. This means our teachers need to be comfortable working as  part of a teaching team, usually comprising a western teacher, a senior Chinese  teacher and junior assistants. This does mean we have a generous student to  teacher ratio, but we have high expectations of our staff and expect them to  meet these expectations.

· LUC Preschool in Pudong

The school is privileged to be a member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). Its curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) criteria and is tailored to target international families in China or Chinese families with an international outlook.

LUC is a growing International Preschool in the heart of the International Community in Shanghai. In the 5 years since our foundation in 2012, LUC’s reputation has grown rapidly, to the point where we now enjoy an excellent reputation in the community and our children are admitted to the finest schools in Shanghai and beyond. The children at LUC range from 2 to 6 years of age and come from a range of cultures.

Our aim is to encourage children to have a positive impact on the world. Children will leave with strong social, emotional, bilingual and academic foundations, to confidently enter Primary School and beyond. We stress the need to develop the children’s academics, character, health and their emotional wellbeing through a child-centred, values led curriculum. This approach will give LUC children the foundation they need to become future leaders and that is our aim at LUC.

Our philosophy is based on the idea that, children should love coming to school, it is an exciting place where they can socialize, inquire, play and succeed. Their learning should be designed to capture their imaginations and foster creativity. A positive environment creates the conditions that enable them to flourish, develop and achieve, in addition to helping create confident, well balanced children.

So, teaching at LUC involves educating the whole child; nurturing the children, developing their academics, character, health and their emotional wellbeing. In addition to this, we are mindful of the fact that language is the means by which we all communicate with, and interpret, the world. It is therefore an amazing advantage for our children at LUC to be working in a language rich environment - and it will be a fantastic skill for them when they go out into the world. This means our teachers need to be comfortable working as part of a teaching team, usually comprising a western teacher, a senior Chinese teacher and junior assistants. This does mean we have a generous student to teacher ratio, but we have high expectations of our staff and expect them to meet these expectations.
