Hazelwood Academy opened on the 1st June 2013 following the successful conversion of its predecessor school and is sponsored by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET).  We are a Primary Academy with an attached Nursery, situated in West Swindon, located just off J16 of the M4. There are currently just over 200 pupils on roll and pupils benefit from a modern, purpose built school building with extensive grounds. The Academy is at an exciting stage in its journey and is committed to securing the future of Hazelwood Academy as a centre of excellence and innovation, where talent is nurtured. 

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join our enthusiastic and friendly team on a fixed term contract from 23rd April until the summer holidays. The role will involve supporting the care and supervision of children in our Early Years Nursery in various play, learning and other daily activities. The successful candidate will be able to maintain a safe working environment, be able to work well as part of a team and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Previous experience of working in an Early Years setting, particularly with 2 and 3 year olds would be an advantage.

This position is required to commence from Tuesday 23 April 2019 and is a fixed term contract for the summer term (13 weeks total).

Our Curriculum

Here at Hazelwood Academy we provide a creative curriculum based around the   Cornerstones Curriculum, a nationally recognised approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children.

The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 Primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our new curriculum will be delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which will provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning.

We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum.

Cornerstones also provide a rigorous essential skills framework that outlines the end of year expectations in all subjects. These essential skills are tied to activities and are age related so that staff can track children’s progress and identify their individual learning needs.
