Job overview

Early Years Team Leader/Teacher

Due to rapid expansion in our Early Years section, Southern International School, Hat Yai, Thailand (SIH) is looking to recruit an Early Years team leader with a teaching role in the department to start as soon as possible.

Southern International School Hat Yai is  a rapidly growing, co-educational, pre-school to age 18 Cambridge International School in the prosperous and friendly southern Thai city of Hat Yai. We are an accredited examination centre for Cambridge International Examinations and achieved ISQM accreditation at Silver level through the Education Development Trust in 2019.  We have also recently been awarded the NDNA Quality Counts award at Platinum level.

Despite being a relatively young school, in only our fifth year of operation, we  are experiencing strong growth, particularly in our early years and primary sections.  You will join a hard working and enthusatic team and will be supported by teaching assistants and professional colleagues.  Class sizes are capped at 18 children in Early Years classes.

We are looking for an experienced leader with a wide range of Early Years teaching experience to take control of the department and lead us to further success.

Our children are mostly Thai and from other Asian countries with parents who are committed to giving their children an international education. Our parents are extremely loyal and supportive, and participate in many school events and activities.

The successful candidate will be joining the school at an exciting period in its development. There are opportunities to develop yourself professionally and personally in a safe, happy, supportive environment. Hat Yai is a wonderful, safe city that provides a great quality of life, and this partly explains why so many of our staff stay with us.

We will contact your referees unless you specify otherwise. Shortlisted candidates will be sent more details including the current staff handbook. You will be expected to gain Level 1 Safeguarding certification if you do not already hold it.

Please look at our Facebook page to get a feel for working in SIH and living in Southern Thailand.

COVID-19 statement:

We feel safe in Southern Thailand however given the precautions taken by the Thai government, it is extremely difficult to get foreign teachers into Thailand, but we have been successful in doing so with the help of our experienced and very supportive admin team.

At the time of writing, the preconditions are:

  • A Certificate of Entry issued by the immigration department (we assist you with this)
  • A Visa ( we assist you with this and the school covers the cost)
  • Health Insurance covering COVID-19 ( we assist you with this and the school covers the cost)
  • A clear COVID-19 'Fit to Fly' test no more than 72 hours before departure (you pay for this)
  • A flight ( you arrange and pay for this, and we reimburse up to THB 20k on arrival)
  • Alternative State Quarantine for 15 days is required (the school assists you with this)
  • You would be advised to get a vaccination as this will ease your travel and may reduce the quarantine period.

Given the uncertainty about your arrival date due to flight and quarantine issues, your contract would start from your first day of work.

NOTE: We reserve the right to interview and offer to a strong candidate prior to the closing date. It is strongly recommended that candidates submit their applications as soon as possible.

Southern International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Please note that should your application be successful a police check will be undertaken in the country of origin; in the UK, a disclosure will be requested from the UK’s Disclosure and Barring Service.

About Southern International School HatYai

The Southern International School Hat Yai was established in 2015 to serve the needs of both Thai nationals and expatriates in the region who wish their children to have a broad and balanced international education. School enrolment currently stands at approximately 190 students with classes ranging from Early Years to Year 11. The Primary section follows the International Primary Curriculum whilst the curriculum for Years 7-11 is based on the National Curriculum of England and follows Cambridge Secondary 1 and IGCSE.

In June 2019 we were awarded the  ISQM Silver accreditation, a massive achievement for such a young school. Our report describes us a '"good school" and notes that "Students' personal development and the school's partnership with parents are outstanding." It adds, "Teachers' subject knowledge is outstanding" and "Teachers plan lessons that are exciting and interesting."

At a recent marketing event we had a tremendous amount of support from our  current parents, who spoke openly to prospective parents about the trust they placed in our school and the amount of individual care and attention paid to their children by our teaching staff. The students feel nurtured, cared for and have many opportunities to learn 21st Century skills and eternal values. We are a happy school. Please look at our Facebook page to get a feel for our culture.

As a young school we are looking for people who are not only excellent teachers but  also willing to contribute to the overall development of the school over the coming years as we make innovation, creativity, integrity, development and professionalism the core values of everyone working at the school. If you would like to be part of a team working together in a professional and collegiate environment then this is the school for you. We are happy for any shortlisted candidate to communicate with our current teachers to get their perspective on living in Hat Yai and working at SIH.
