Thurrock is a busy unitary borough bordering the River Thames in Essex, with excellent transport links to London and home to the Lakeside Shopping Centre.

Thurrock’s Virtual School monitors and supports the education of Looked After Children. The work of the Virtual School includes:- the development of Personal Education Plans; provide support for children transitioning from one school group to another, and working with social services, foster carers and educational settings.

We are recruiting three qualified teachers to join our expanding Virtual School Team. The vacant posts will cover the age ranges of Early Years and Primary; Secondary Education (Key Stages 3 and 4); and Post 16.

You will support the Virtual School Head to ensure that the Local Authority meets all the relevant statutory duties as detailed in the DfE Statutory Guidance ‘Promoting the Educational Achievement of Looked After Children’ [March 2014]

You will have a high level of technical knowledge in relation to all aspects of education, including Special Education Needs, exclusions and behaviour management. In particular, you will provide support and challenge to social workers, carers and school/college staff in order to identify barriers to children in care achieving in education and develop strategies to improve their educational attainment.

You may be required to work cross phase, and you will also be required to travel to educational settings in and out of borough.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level is required for these roles.
