Key Tasks and Responsibilities

This Bristol based role will be responsible for working collaboratively with specified faculties to provide wellbeing support to learners who are identified as vulnerable or at risk, in order to support their personal development, maintain their attendance and maximise their progress and achievement.

The role involves liaising with a range of internal college services and external agencies to secure appropriate support for learners.

The post holder will be a named Safeguarding Officer, and will act as the first point of contact for all safeguarding concerns for learners within their specified faculty. You will be responsible for providing information, advice and guidance about the wellbeing, safeguarding and protection of our learners, as well as contributing to the running of the SGS Wellbeing Service.

Key Tasks Include:

  • To undertake the role of Safeguarding Officer and to follow processes and procedures as detailed in the College’s ‘Safeguarding Children, Young people and Vulnerable Adults Policy and Procedure’. To refer learners, and liaise with external agencies where appropriate.
  • To provide 1:1 wellbeing support for learners to help support their social, emotional, mental health and wellbeing.
  • To work collaboratively with tutors, other relevant staff, parents, carers, external agencies and learners to support retention, personal development, achievement and progression of identified learners
  • To support a cohort of Looked After Children, Care Leavers and Young Adult Carers to achieve and succeed whilst they study at SGS College.


Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of working with young people aged 14 + on emotional, social, mental health and wellbeing issues.
  • Specialist knowledge/experience in relevant fields e.g. Mental Health, Youth work, Housing, Social Care etc.
  • To maintain accurate and detailed computerised records, produce written reports, statistics, case studies and evaluations.
  • To be able to work as part of a team.
