Description

The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated personnel for the position of Education Officer - Developmental Disabilities. This 0.8 FTE position is a permanent position.

Position Requirements

As a member of the Student Support Unit, within Teaching and Learning Services, the Education Officer - Developmental Disabilities will provide services and assistance to schools (K-12) to build their capacity to support students with developmental disabilities, and to implement school-wide programs and practices.

Essential Criteria

• A clear understanding of, and personal commitment to, Catholic Education and the ethos of Catholic schools;

• Hold relevant teaching qualifications with post graduate qualifications in Special Education;

• Possess a comprehensive understanding of relevant educational issues and pedagogy, particularly in relation to students with disabilities;

• Extensive experience working with children with developmental disabilities, particularly autism spectrum disorders, K-12;

• Sound knowledge of identification and assessment processes, curriculum differentiation, adjustments, programming, and behaviour support, for students with developmental disabilities;

• High level skills and extensive experience in delivering staff training and professional development;

• Extensive experience in supporting students and schools at key transition times;

• Working knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the Disability Standards for Education (DSE) legislation and its implications for schools;

• Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment;

• Demonstrated capacity to build relationships with key stakeholders;

• Excellent organisational, communication and information technology skills.

The applicant must provide evidence of the following:

• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher;

• Current NESA Accreditation;

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number.

Commencement: 20/01/2021

Conditions of Employment

Conditions and salary commensurate with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools Office Employees Enterprise Agreement 2017 - Education and Professional Officers salary scale 3.3.
