Description

The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably and highly motivated people for  Education Officer Formation for Mission in the diocese of Maitland/Newcastle.

This is a permanent K-12, 1.0 positions as part of the Religious Education and Spirituality Services Team at the Catholic Schools Office. The successful applicant will be part of a formation team who will work in consultation with the Head of Religious Education and Spirituality Services.

The purpose of this position is to:

1. Support Diocesan schools and office personnel in the realisation of the system strategic plan,

2. To maintain the current formation programs in place

3. To research, write and deliver formation programs across the Diocese K-12 supporting the formation and evangelisation of teachers in the delivery of curriculum.

4. To assist all employees to achieve Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead.

5. To contribute to COSI processes and in school support.

6. To be a leader of faith formation and spirituality in the diocese.

7. To work in partnership with the Manager of Formation and Education in the Diocese

Position Requirements

As a member of the Religious Education & Spirituality Team, the successful applicants, in consultation with the Head of Religious Education & Spirituality Services, will:

• To work as an integral member of the RE&S Team supporting curriculum and evangelisation through formation;

• Work as a member of a team to support the delivery of the current suite of programs across the CSO and schools;

• Assist schools in the research and delivery of their Formation Frameworks and formation days;

• Work as an integral member of the Continuum Of School Improvement process, with a particular focus on monitoring of the Catholic Identity Improvement Tool;

• Deliver Wellsprings Accreditation Pathways;

• Coordinate a suite of relevant spiritual/faith formation programs for school staff and CSO staff to assist in the provision of currency hours;

• Research and write new programs to support emerging needs;

• Monitor and assist schools in the development of school-based frameworks relating to the support if the unique Catholic character of our Catholic schools;

• Liaise with a variety of presenters to deliver formation on identified areas of need;

• Maintain the current online offerings and add to these;

• Be prepared to co-ordinate an External Retreat Team and engage in their training with the Support of the Head of RE & S;

• Liaise and work collaboratively with the Diocesan Education and Formation Team situated within the Pastoral Ministries team;

• Potentially become a member of the Adult faith Formation Council

• Provide high quality spiritual formation experiences that are personally meaningful, faithful to the ecclesial nature, teachings and traditions of the church and be strategically effective;

• Be collaborative, consultative and supportive;

• Model inclusive behaviour in all schools and office activities

• Accept and respect staff from various cultural and religious backgrounds;

• Participate in regular evaluation to facilitate ongoing improvement and to address new challenges;

• Be able to attend single and extended overnight retreats and pilgrimages.

Essential Criteria

1. Must be a practising Catholic and be able to demonstrate leadership in the Church beyond the school;

2. Provide a current Parish Priest reference which supports engagement in a mature faith life;

3. Hold a master’s degree in at least one of the following disciplines: Religious Education, Theology, or equivalent and meet the criteria for Category E Work Teach and Lead;

4. Have relevant school or system and Church leadership experience demonstrating a capacity to provide leadership and advice to schools and system;

5. An understanding that Spiritual/ Faith Formation is intimately linked to one’s practice of the faith in the local parish community;

6. Have a clear understanding of and personal commitment to Catholic educational philosophy and goals;

7. Have demonstrated initiative and the ability to work in a team setting or unsupervised, as required;

8. An understanding of foundational documents and principles underpinning Formation;

9. Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills;

10. The capacity to deliver spiritual/ faith formation programs using principles which support a mature adult formation.

Commencement: 20/01/21

Conditions of Employment: Conditions and salary commensurate with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools Office Employees Enterprise Agreement 2017 - Education and Professional Officers salary scale 3.3.
