Description The Director of Schools is seeking internal Expressions of Interest from suitably and highly motivated people for the position of Education Officer Spiritual/Faith Formation in the diocese of Maitland/Newcastle. This is a temporary K-12, 0.4 position as part of the Religious Education and Spirituality Services Team at the Catholic Schools Office for Term 3 2019 with a possibility for extension into Term 4, 2019. The successful applicant will work with the current Education Officer Formation for Mission, in consultation with the Head of Religious Education and Spirituality Services, which supports diocesan schools and office personnel in the realisation of the system strategic plan, to research, write and deliver formation programs across the Diocese. The position also requires contribution to COSI processes and in school support.
Position Requirements As a member of the Religious Education & Spirituality Team the successful applicant will, assist in the finalising of the overarching Formation Framework with the Formation Framework Working Party and the RE&S Team As a member of the Religious Education & Spirituality Team, the successful applicant, in consultation with the Head of Religious Education & Spirituality Services, will:
• work with current Education Officer Formation For Mission to support the delivery of the current suite of programs across the CSO and schools will assist schools in the research and delivery of their Formation Frameworks and days.
• coordinate a suite of relevant spiritual/faith formation programs for school staff and CSO staff
• provide high quality spiritual formation experiences that are personally meaningful, ecclesially faithful and strategically effective
• be collaborative, consultative and supportive
• model inclusive behaviour in all schools and office activities
• accept and respect staff from various cultural and religious backgrounds
• participate in regular evaluation to facilitate ongoing improvement and to address new challenges The RE&S department will work in conjunction with the needs of the school to co-ordinate the implementation of the 0.4
Essential Criteria • must be a practising Catholic and provide the name and contact number of their Parish Priest with their application
• hold a Master’s Degree in at least one of the following disciplines: Religious Education, Theology, Educational Leadership or equivalent and meet the criteria for Category E Work Teach and Lead.
• have school or system leadership experience
• an understanding that Spiritual/ Faith Formation is intimately linked to one’s practice of the faith in the local parish community
• have a clear understanding of and personal commitment to Catholic educational philosophy and goals
• have demonstrated initiative and the ability to work in a team setting or unsupervised, as required
• strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
• the capacity to deliver spiritual/ faith formation programs to a variety of people in a wide variety of contexts and roles
