Yarra Junction Campus is the School’s centre for Education Outdoors and Earth Studies. The teaching and learning program at Yarra Junction provides students with innovative and challenging experiential learning opportunities through unique residential immersion experiences of varying durations.

Through involvement in the Education Outdoors program, students develop their understanding of sustainable living through learning activities centred around the eco-cabins, which accommodate the students, the self-sufficient earth studies centre, Wadambawilam, the commercial dairy farm and the surrounding natural environment.  A variety of challenging educational activities are delivered across the year level programs including canoeing, bike riding, high ropes and bushwalking.

As a member of the Yarra Junction Campus Teaching and Learning team, the Education Outdoors Teacher is responsible for leading and delivering elements of the Yarra Junction Education Outdoors Program and building a strong learning culture for both students and staff.  This 12 month fixed-term opportunity will commence in January 2022.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in leading a strong and vibrant learning culture that strives for continuous improvement and ensures quality learning in all settings for both staff and students
  • Constructively contribute to Campus meetings
  • Work closely with the Deputy Head of Campus to lead and co-ordinate the day-to-day operation of the relevant program (including student timetable management, staff rostering, new staff orientation/induction, casual staff management, program resourcing, staff training and daily organisation)
  • Ensure consistent curriculum documentation and delivery of a high-quality teaching and learning program
  • Review assessment and reporting tools and strategies currently being utilised within the relevant teaching and learning program
  • Represent and promote the Yarra Junction Campus and the relevant program at parent briefings and student briefings
  • Maintain an active involvement in professional learning in and beyond the school. In CGS Professional Development sessions show evidence of creative methodology and implementation
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviour

Key Skills:

  • Experience in Outdoor and Environmental Education
  • Demonstrated curriculum development and teaching experience
  • A passionate commitment to the provision of experiential education to junior, middle, and senior school students
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to improve learning outcomes for both students and staff through continuous improvement initiatives
  • VIT Registration, Leaders Wilderness First Aid, Bronze Medallion, Anaphylaxis Management

Training and experience in the delivery of bushwalking, canoeing and challenge ropes courses
