About Beckmead College

Head's Welcome

Welcome to our website, I hope you find it informative and an accurate reflection of the values and ethos of Beckmead College.

Beckmead College is a successful, vibrant SEN school for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. A place where children's needs come first. Our staff are highly motivated, caring, committed and loving and our primary aim is to promote equality, nurture and progress, whilst supporting the needs of every child in our care. Staff work closely with parents and carers as we recognise the importance of regular and consistent communication between home, school and external agencies. Our intention is for all students to enjoy their time at Beckmead College and for the learning process to be a fun, stimulating and challenging journey into adulthood. We set high expectations and want our students to gain every opportunity to become confident and independent learners.

Beckmead College has an excellent broad curriculum offering maths, English, science, art, ICT, citizenship, employability, media, PSHE, and sports/fitness. We have an extensive vocational department consisting of carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating and multi-skills workshops and a mechanics workshop to support construction and mechanics qualifications, alongside substantial hospitality and catering facilities and a state-of-the-art recording studio. Students are able to work towards GCSEs, functional skills and entry level qualifications which ensures that every student has the opportunity to excel and to achieve.

We believe in a whole child approach to education in order for every child to reach their full potential. This starts with creating an environment of belonging and connection for students and adults to engage and thrive. Beckmead College comprises two sites: our large, multi-million pound, purpose-built Tennison Road Campus and the smaller, more intimate Alverston Gardens Campus.  We are fortunate to have our own multi-sports and game area, a boxing ring, a weights area and fully equipped gym, a recording studio, fully equipped teaching kitchens, an art studio, sensory rooms, a modern vocational department and over 10 classrooms and nurture rooms equipped with interactive teaching and learning boards.

Having close links with other sites within the trust, namely Beckmead School, Chaffinch Brook, and Tharreo House, emphasises our belief in the importance of continuity and familiarity for our students. Staff meet to discuss and plan carefully for the transitioning process, with much sharing of ideas for a smooth changeover. Our priority is for students to feel welcome, safe, and nurtured as they build relationships and settle into college.

I feel privileged to be the headteacher of Beckmead College, where my aim is to support students to reach their full potential, develop their social awareness and become positive citizens within society. I hope you have found this information useful and it helps to form the beginning of a successful partnership between us. I welcome all parents, carers and professionals to the school, why not come and have a tour we have many exciting plans for the year ahead!
