Salary: £28,331 to £33,797 per annum
Overview
The department of Physics and Mathematics was recently successful in securing funding for a WRIPA+ project that aims to increase the number of physics students taking graduate level roles within the Yorkshire and East Midlands region. WRIPA+ is an extension of the already existing White Rose Industrial Physics Academy (WRIPA). We are looking to appoint a committed, and enthusiastic Employability Manager to help us deliver on that vision. The post is fixed term until Dec 2022 and will span a number of areas that include employer engagement, and student support.
The role:
We are looking for a candidate who has a practical working knowledge of the high-tech SME sector in the Humberside region and who is comfortable in organising and liaising between the physics department and local businesses to help facilitate industry-academic relationships.
You will be expected to provide support to students securing industrial placements. This will involve supporting students through the entire life cycle of the placement process from preparation to application to visiting students on placement. You will have a detailed and extensive knowledge of strategies and techniques for helping students improve their overall employability skills. This will include direct student support and organising seminars / workshops for students. You will work in partnership with the University Careers Service and share information on developments, opportunities and activities. The work requires the use of initiative and judgement on how to address and resolve problems.
The successful candidate will manage and update a database of local high tech SMEs that could potentially employ physicists. You will be expected to look for opportunities with which to organise student placements, or industry guided group projects. You will meet with students to help them secure and prepare for their placements, and support students while on placement.
