Job overview

Employment and Skills Officer

Salary Range: £31,963 to £35,961

Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) recently judged by Ofsted Inspection as officially good and on our way to outstanding is the largest local authority adult education service in London and one of the largest in the country. We offer a large and diverse programme of further education qualification courses and employer-based training as well as extensive community based provision. We have a diverse, enthusiastic student community, taught and supported by well qualified, dedicated staff. Our three main centres in Westminster are all modern, easily accessible and purpose built, offering high quality teaching and learning facilities.

We offer excellent employment benefits including a public sector pension scheme and opportunities for Continuous Professional Development.

This is your opportunity to be at the heart of this exciting work readiness initiative, developing and delivering projects which will transform the lives of WAES learners. Reporting to the Assistant Principal of Education and Training, your role is to ensure that learners benefit from choosing to study here and ensure that residents have the skills and experience that employers want, creating and managing preferential pathways to work; in essence future-proofing Westminster’s city for all - global city status.

You will:

· Lead the development of the Employment and Skills strategy, which will involve the coordination of cross-college employability activities to progress our learners into meaningful and sustained employment

· Work with internal and external partners to coordinate work placement opportunities for learners on traineeships and other vocational related programmes.

· Lead our Employment Provider Forum which will seek to establish, maintain and improve linkages between providers, residents and the borough in order to secure meaningful and sustainable employment outcomes for our learners.

· Develop strong and appropriate links with employers and providers and aim to maximise benefits for local residents from their provision – this would include initiating data sharing agreements, collecting and collating data from providers to link to our internal data analysis processes.

The successful candidate will be highly experienced in implementing and operating the provision of employment skills training, and will have the appropriate level of strategic and policy understanding, as well as strong negotiation skills.

Closing Date: 5pm – Monday 8 January 2018

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 16 January 2018

About Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES)

Westminster is one of the most diverse and dynamic communities in Britain. Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) reflects that diversity and dynamism. We are one of the largest adult education providers in the country.

The service is part of the education department of the City of Westminster and is funded by the London Central Learning and Skills Council. Our board of governors includes student representatives, elected members of the city council and members from the community and local organisations.

We have strong roots in the community, running courses where they are needed through partnerships with the local authority and other community and education bodies.

To ensure the quality of our courses and support for students, WAES is inspected by Ofsted. On courses leading to national qualifications, we must also meet the high standards required by examination bodies.
