We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to help develop the aspirations and skills of young people with SEND in Waltham Forest. We have a vacancy for an Employ Me Caseworker in a local school as part of Mencap’s Employ Me team. This role is full-time, fixed term 12 month contract. Our programme offers a wide range of benefits, helping young people with SEND to:

· Understand the range of choices available to them when the leave school

Working in Whitefield Academy in Walthamstow, the successful candidate will collaborate with the school to prepare learners for transition onto an appropriate employment or skills orientated programme or into work. The support is intended to add value and foster a belief amongst SEND learners of employment as a realistic option.

To do this you will support learners in the work place through individual job coaching and prepare and deliver careers education sessions to groups. You will also work with other members of the Mencap team to identify and source work placement opportunities for SEND learners in to the local area.

Skills for a Caseworker

The Caseworker will need the ability to work on your own initiative.

Good interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with learners, employers, teaching professionals, parents/carers.

The ability to maintain accurate and up to date records using IT based systems is also required.

You will ideally come from a teaching or careers background and/or will need to understand how to communicate and work with learners with varying degrees of learning disabilities.
