Job overview

The JCB Academy was established in September 2010, the first of a brand new kind of school in the UK, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering and business education.

Since opening we have been consistently successful - our first Ofsted inspection, in May 2014, recognised us as a “Good” school with “outstanding” features, including progress in mathematics, engineering and vocational courses and the dedication to keeping students safe and secure.  Pupil numbers are growing - we have been oversubscribed every year, including for entry this September.  Currently we cater for approximately 580 full time students aged 14-18 as well as approximately 300 students aged 16+ following apprenticeships.  We have exciting plans to expand further due to the demand for places.

We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational individual to lead the team of Engineering staff at Key Stage 5.  This is a fantastic opportunity to work in partnership with some of the biggest names in engineering and design and to be at the forefront of curriculum innovation.

As a team leader at The JCB Academy, you will have the opportunity to plan, organise and deliver an appropriate learning programme that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfil their academic potential in engineering at KS5.

The successful individual will:

  • Develop and deliver an engaging engineering curriculum to KS5
  • Benefit from working with small class sizes, outstanding engineering workshop facilities and cutting edge ICT.
  • Have access to superb professional development and a competitive salary.
  • Work in a supportive environment with professionals who are down-to-earth and committed to the aims of the academy.

If you are a qualified Engineering teacher or possess relevant level 4/5 technical qualifications and the ability to demonstrate that you are a good teacher with a passion for developing engineers of the future then we want to hear from you. This position would suit an ambitious teacher seeking their first step into management or an experienced leader eager for a new challenge and the opportunity to work in a unique environment with fantastic facilities.

Learner numbers are growing and we have been oversubscribed every year. Currently we cater for approximately 700 full time learners aged 13-19 as well as approximately 300 learners aged 16+ following apprenticeships.

The academy is located in Rocester, Staffordshire in an adapted and renovated mill,  built by the famous industrial entrepreneur and engineer, Richard Arkwright, in the late 18th century.

  • Having dedicated staff who inspire our learners.
  • Ensuring every learner has a meaningful destination.

We work tirelessly to ensure that those entrusted into our care have every chance to achieve success. It is also important that we work to develop those core skills essential for success, not just in the world of work but also in life. The JCB Academy looks to ensure that all learning enables young people to develop:

  • Can do/positive attitudes.
  • The desire to achieve through actions.
  • Creative and enterprising behaviours.
  • A willingness to learn in the pursuit of technical and academic excellence.
  • Team work and leadership capability.

We have high expectations of each and every learner who will join us. Great store is placed upon self-discipline, good behaviour, uniform, teamwork and co-operation. These traditional values are at the heart of all we undertake at The JCB Academy.

The JCB Academy is a demanding and stimulating place to work. One where you will be supported to achieve your very best in a fantastic working environment.

Ofsted

“Students make outstanding progress in mathematics, engineering and most vocational courses. Many students enter apprenticeships, higher education courses and careers which reflect the characteristics of the University Technical College and its high reputation in the engineering and business industries and professions. Leadership, including governance, is good and improving. As a result, all groups of students are making sustained progress and most are achieving well.”
