Job overview

The Royal School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative English and Mathematics Tutor to support extra curricula learning in our heavily oversubscribed day and boarding free school. The aptitude and willingness to teach a range of abilities from ages 11-16 is essential.

Your responsibilities will be to help students learn, through reviewing contents and develop solving skills, study skills and organisation.  This may be a one-to-one or group session. In particular, you will focus on working with our most vulnerable pupils (LAC and PLAC), to work with them to help them reach their full potential in English or Maths and to be aware of the barriers to learning they may have, and to be sensitive to their needs.

To work with HOH, Subject Leader and the Designated Teacher to ensure data and information is available, to ensure that this is available to class teacher and can be included in PEP paperwork, ensuring that the pupil makes progress in Maths or English.

Progress must be shared in a timely manner with Subject Leaders and teachers. Tutors are responsible for ensuring good discipline within the sessions, being a role model for the pupils.

Experience of Core Maths at key stage 3 and 4 is essential. We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and aspirational NQTs.

The English team is at an important stage in securing the highest standards of learning and teaching. 2019 GCSE results saw 79% of our students gaining 9-4 in English from our non-selective cohort.

The school has entered a significant building programme where all areas of this well-established school will be brought up to the very highest standards over the next 2 years.  The departments are eager to improve the standards and ‘passion’ of mathematics and English for all students. All year groups are set by ability and regular pupil tracking assists with such decisions.

Are you the person to stretch, challenge, support and inspire our students? A positive approach, excellent motivation and positive attitude are fundamental to this role.

The Royal School has achieved excellent academic results throughout its history and has an outstanding reputation for nurturing and developing confident, well-disciplined and successful individuals who progress successfully to the next stage of their life and career. We relish this next phase in its existence which enables us to review and build on our current success in preparing our young people for a rapidly evolving world.  We hope that you will share in this passion for a broader educational opportunity.

Please, visit The Royal School website for further information and details of how to apply and we welcome personal visits to the school to see for yourself this vibrant, heavily oversubscribed school community.
