An opportunity has arisen for a Year 7 & 8 English Teacher to join our teaching staff at an exciting time in the life of the Minster School. This is a part time role (0.5 FTE) preferably five mornings (or half days Monday - Friday).  You will expect to fully contribute to the life of the School including co-curricular activities and with colleagues for lunch and other duties. 


With experience of teaching English at least to years 7 and 8, the successful candidate will be an inspiring and innovative educator with the ability to enthusiastically encourage pupils to achieve their potential. An understanding of independent secondary school entry requirements (into Y9) and experience of coaching pupils through the common entrance exam are essential and an ability to contribute to the teaching and learning of Religious Education and another subject (such as Design Technology) would be beneficial.


Candidates should complete applications by no later than 12 Noon on Thursday 23 May 2019 and interviews are scheduled for Monday 3 June 2019 where there will also be an opportunity to see the school. As part of the selection process the shortlisted candidates will be asked to prepare for and deliver a lesson. Please note that references will be requested prior to interview and appointment is subject to satisfactory references and all pre-employment checks (including but not limited to an enhanced DBS check).

About The Minster School

The Minster School is an independent, fully co-educational, day pre-preparatory school for children aged 3 – 13. Standing in the precinct of York Minster, the school boasts a history with roots as far back as 627AD. It is home to 180 pupils including the boy and girl choristers of the Minster Choir. As a department of York Minster, the Minster School is governed by the Chapter of York.

 Recent innovations include collaboration with a day care nursery provider who provide 0 – 3year old nursery education within the Minster precinct alongside the school. The School Leadership Team work with other departments of the Minster to provide finance, marketing resourcing people and strategic support. The School community is a vital part of the whole community of the Minster so that staff and families are an integral part of the worshipping and volunteering life of the Cathedral.
