MISY Mandalay is a young emerging school with new facilities in an enchanting developing country. 

An exciting opportunity for secondary teachers to join a developing international school in Mandalay, Myanmar. Come and help us guide its future by developing and setting up the first Year 10, IGCSE classes.

The job entails teaching Secondary students in Key Stage 3 using the English National Curriculum adapted to international standards.  MISY Mandalay is newly introducing Key Stage 4, and we need qualified and experienced IGCSE subject teachers that are well acquainted with the latest  IGCSE curriculum and can set up a new department. 

Our class sizes are small, students are very enthusiastic, active and really enjoy school. Teachers can bring in their passion and develop their professional path in a constructive way to add to the school development. The school offers possibilities to develop leadership skills. MISY Mandalay has a very supportive PTA that collaborates well with the school and engages in different local initiatives.

Degree and Qualities required

Applications are invited for teaching positions in the secondary  section of MISY Mandalay . The successful candidate will; 

  • have a degree and a recognised teaching qualification e.g. PGCE or PGCEi
  • have experience and excellent knowledge of teaching at Key Stage 3 & 4 
  • good knowledge of English National  Curriculum at  Key stage 3
  • good knowledge of  curriculum at Key Stage 4
  • preferably can teach  more than one subject
  • have experience working with students for whom English is not their first language, English across the curriculum 
  • have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience
  • take an active part in our PSHE programme
  • participate in educational visits
  • be asked to run one or two after school activities each term
  • be a good team player
  • have a positive and solution finding approach to their working life
  • appreciate the joys and challenges of working in an international school environment
  • be sensitive and have a cultural awareness needed to appreciate the joys and challenges of living in a developing Asian country
  • Preferably, but not required, has experience with SEN students

Contracts

Contracts are for two years with an option to renew by mutual agreement. Full details of the salary scales and benefits will be sent to all shortlisted candidates, benefits include;

  • paid flights at the beginning and end of the contract
  • a generous housing allowance
  • daily free transportation to and from school
  • monthly 'Mandalay' allowance
  • excellent medical insurance
  • holiday allowances paid twice per year at Christmas and Thingyan (the Myanmar New Year in mid-April)
  • yearly professional development allowance
  • free tuition in MISY Mandalay  for up to two children

Background:

MISY Mandalay Campus is a sister school of Myanmar International School Yangon. 

MISY Mandalay opened their new and spacious campus August 2018 offering a world class British style international education. The school has already gained a remarkable reputation. The school currently caters for classes from Early Years (Nursery and Reception) to Year 9, expanding in 2020 to Years 10, introducing the IGCSE, Key Stage 4 programme. MISY Mandalay offers an inclusive learning environment in a caring, family atmosphere. 

Curriculum

Students in the Early Years and Years 1-6, as well as Years 7-9, Key Stage 3, follow the English National Curriculum suitably modified for international students. They also study two additional languages, Myanmar and Mandarin. 

Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 & 2 classes develop our students' language skills using Jolly Phonics, Big Write, Big Talk and Oxford Reading Tree. Pie Corbett story telling will also be widely used in the Primary section.
