The Sheikh Zayed Academy for Boys is looking to appoint an English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher, reporting to the Whole-School EAL Leader.

EAL Teacher Summary:

The role of the English as an Additional Language Teacher is to implement an effective language development program for The Sheikh Zayed Private Academy for Boys. They will support language learning on a school-wide level by empowering teachers with EAL strategies. By training teachers on these strategies, the lessons delivered will develop language proficiency while ensuring the class subject is accessible for all students.

EAL Teacher Responsibilities

  • Administer the approved language assessment to identify language proficiencies and measure annual and 3-year trend student achievement. Use this analysis to set and monitor whole phase developmental targets in coordination with the Whole School EAL Leader.
  • Identify at-risk language learners and create, implement and monitor individualized strategies and accommodations following the outlined protocol, monitoring and evaluating their impact.
  • Communicate language proficiency level data, student language needs, and student language growth with teachers.
  • Collaborate with leaders, teachers, and the Whole School EAL Leader to support the implementation, monitoring and review of research based EAL strategies. 
  • Facilitate effective professional development in language acquisition pedagogy and best practices.
  • Uphold policies and practices of inclusion and multilingualism. 
  • Perform other EAL duties as assigned.
  • Plan and deliver lessons as required establishing and maintaining a model classroom of EAL expertise.


EAL Teacher Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or PGCE
  • Additional qualification such as TEFL/TESL/TESOL, CELTA/DELTA, Trinity or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience
  • A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check
