Building confidence for the future
Ashley College provides support for Brent children and young people who are unable to attend mainstream schooling due to health needs. We have 35 pupils at any one time - 20 KS3-KS4 pupils at the centre and 15 KS1-KS4 pupils receiving home tuition. Many of the pupils may also have other learning needs (SEND, ASD, OCD, etc). We provide effective education and support enabling pupils to reintegrate back into mainstream or transition to other educational institutes and go on to achieving their potential.
The successful candidate will be mainly teaching secondary English and Food Technology or Art at the centre. The school has a warm, welcoming atmosphere in an attractive location. We have a small team of dedicated and committed staff who teach a broad, personalised and enriched curriculum catering for the needs of individual pupils in a nurturing environment. Our teachers provide a wide range of support and qualifications to our students, as such our staff manage their subject areas and may also teach or support in other subjects. Our centre based group sizes are small, no more than 8 in a class, our home tuition service involves teaching 1:1
As a team we work hard to provide a good education for our pupils and were judged ‘Good’ by OFSTED in December 2017. (https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/134846).
- To teach English in accordance with appropriate syllabus and the National Curriculum Programme of study and in the context of the aims of Ashley College and the needs of students.
- To teach a second subject area- Food Technology or Art:
- To teach Food Technology - our KS4 pupils complete the AQA Level 1/2 Award in Food and Catering. Food Tech is offered to engage pupils to attend through enjoyment of cooking and to develop life skills.
- To teach Art in accordance with appropriate GCSE and KS3 syllabus and the National Curriculum Programme of study and in the context of the aims of Ashley College and the needs of students.
- To enable the Ashley College team to fulfil statutory and regulatory roles in line with national and local policies, regulations and guidance.
- To demonstrate a commitment to continuously improve the delivery and quality of service to students, parents/carers, partner agencies, colleagues and managers
- To work in partnership with families and colleagues in schools to provide excellent education whilst students are out of mainstream school and reintegration support.
- To work as part of the Ashley College team providing high quality teaching to individuals and groups of students in at least one curriculum area.
- To contribute to the provision of the highest quality pastoral support to meet the holistic needs of all students and their families and to act as tutor to an identified cohort of students.
- To carry out all the duties and responsibilities outlined in the latest Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and to uphold and strive to fully meet the Teachers’ Standards.
- To be flexible and adaptable, willing to train and be prepared to deliver on a range of responsibilities as the needs of Ashley College evolve, commensurate to their role and job description.
Will have QTS - Qualified Teacher Status
Experience of teaching students with Health Needs or Special Educational Needs is desirable
