Do you have a passion for English teaching? Are you knowledgeable about children’s fiction and can you offer support to staff across the school to inspire them and guide their work in English to improve outcomes for our pupils, many of whom have English as an additional language?
The governors of Thornton Primary School are seeking to appoint an ambitious and inspirational teacher to work alongside the Head teacher and other members of the senior leadership team to secure outstanding progress in English by all pupils in the school. The post holder will be an active member of the school’s extended leadership team and will provide support and professional development to school staff in English.
The ideal post holder will:
• Demonstrate consistently high quality teaching.
• Managing the quality and effectiveness of the curriculum through the co-ordination of teaching and learning in English and sharing of good practice in classrooms.
• Leading strategies aimed at raising achievement in English throughout the School.
• To have an overview of assessment, recording and reporting for English across the school.

Thornton Primary School was founded in 1930 in Birmingham, West Midlands. A school of larger-than-average size, Thornton Primary is proud of its diverse intake, with students from a wide range of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. There are around 150 pupils in each year group after Reception.

Thornton Primary School works hard to ensure that its students have the necessary self-confidence and independence to properly progress in secondary education and beyond. Teachers focus on more than simply the academic aspects of schooling, however. Pupils are encouraged to remain active and inquisitive, so a great deal of learning takes place outside of the classroom and extra-curricular activities are encouraged.
