Job overview

We require an English Teacher with excellent subject knowledge who can combine academic rigour and achievement with a passion for the subject. Our students deserve to be inspired to develop a lifelong love of literature and reading, and taught  to high standards of  literacy and oracy that will set them up for their lives beyond school.

The post holder will be expected to teach across all key stages and complement this dynamic and forward thinking department. Our English team is collaborative and innovative, set within a school culture of professional growth, research-based practice and brave teaching. Our teachers comment that, due to our outstanding programme of ongoing professional development, they have become the best teachers they have ever been and so we are confident that joining our school presents a great opportunity for professional growth. Applications from candidates with a keen interest in pastoral work, especially current or aspiring Heads of Year, would be particularly welcomed but this should not exclude applications from English teachers who believe they can positively add value to our organisation.

At The Priory School, our Christian distinctiveness is embodied in our core values of Wisdom, Dignity, Hope and Community. Our values are enacted every day in school life both in and out of the classroom.

The Priory School has recently been inspected by Ofsted and we are delighted to have retained our status as a Good school.  Inspectors recognised ‘principled and determined leadership’ by Rachel Gibb, Headteacher, and commented that ‘Staff care a great deal about pupil’s personal development and emotional well-being. Consequently, relationships between pupils and staff are very strong’. This is an opportunity for you to become a part of our established culture of mutual respect and personal growth which underpin our pedagogical approach.

If you wish to join a school that is thriving and destined for even greater things, working in an environment where your professional development and well-being are continuously supported, then we would welcome your application which should be submitted by noon on Tuesday 22 October 2019. The successful non-agency applicant will benefit from a £1000 welcome remuneration.

Interviews will take place Thursday 24 October 2019.

About The Priory CofE Voluntary Aided School

The Priory School is a Church of England Voluntary Aided school.

This means that the education that we provide offers more than academic rigour and excellence. Our rates of progress are outstanding; these are enhanced and extended by our school values which are at the heart of everything we do.

The combination of academic challenge and support, the breadth and range of our curriculum and the close links we have locally and with the wider world mean that we are ‘serving our community’ and ‘educating for life in all its fullness’ every day.

We firmly believe that our values of hope, wisdom, dignity and community are meaningful, desirable and relevant foundations on which all young people can start to build their adult lives.

Schools have been set up by the Church of England for more than two centuries with the intention of educating the children of the parish. At The Priory, the vast majority of our students come from local C of E primary schools such as St Paul’s, St Martin’s, St John’s, The Weald and Surrey Hills. In addition we warmly receive students from other Dorking schools such as Powell Corderoy, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and North Downs, clearly indicating that we are open and welcoming to students and families of other faiths and of no faith
