Following the recent withdrawal of a candidate we seek a teacher to join a thriving English team from September 2019. Al Basma is a popular and over-subscribed, high performing ENC School, catering for children from FS1 to Y13. As a BSO school (EduBase No.143834) we are able to offer a UK recognised induction year to NQTs and candidates with QTS who are yet to complete their induction year, in association with ESP Education, formerly the international arm of Buckinghamshire Learning Trust.

We follow the 2014 National Curriculum of England and the EYFS, Development Matters curriculum in FS. We use a range of GL assessments and offer a range of GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A Levels from Cambridge, Edexcel and AQA exam boards to our older students. Although the student body is 96% EAL English Language and Literature are studied very successfully by the majority of students at GCSE with a minority of students studying ESL iGCSE.

The school gained BSO (British Schools Overseas) accreditation in May 2016 following a successful inspection in its second year of operation. In January 2019 in its fifth year of operation it had its third ADEK inspection and was placed in Band A – ‘a high performing’ school. Moving from satisfactory in 2015 to  good in 2017, it was graded very good with outstanding features in 2019. Most recently in February 2019 the second BSO inspection graded the school good with many outstanding features, with the inspectors commenting on the school’s remarkable rate of improvement.

Teachers will be highly motivated as exemplary practitioners demonstrating a deep understanding of personalised learning. Candidates should be committed to ongoing school improvement and feel comfortable in a climate of innovative and creative development. 

We welcome applications from candidates with one the following sets of qualifications: 

• An Internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Education specialising in Y7 to 13 English Language or Literature. 

or

• An Internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in English or a closely related subject and an internationally recognised PGCE or PGDE in Secondary English and QTS

or

• An internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in English Education or a related subject with QTS 

Please note an EILTS or TEFL qualification alone is not accepted in place of  a teaching qualification or QTS

Any joint honours degree which includes theology or religious education will not be accepted by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge. 

There is no longer a need for teachers to have post-graduation teaching experience (in accordance with Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge Regulations which apply to all private schools in Abu Dhabi)

Please note two supporting references and a police clearance certificate, ACRO or DBS no more than 3 months old must be provided.

Candidates travelling with no dependents or a spouse with their own international package will benefit the most from our package.

Al Basma British School is a co-educational independent all-through school. It is based in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

The school opened its doors in 2014. Students follow the National Curriculum of England, with additional lessons in Arabic language, UAE Social Studies and Islamic Studies (for Muslim students) to meet the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Education. In terms of facilities, the school has 2 multi-purpose sports halls, 2 swimming pools, play areas, a medical clinic with experienced nurses, 2 cafeterias, an administration hub, well resourced classrooms equipped with interactive panels and whiteboards, extensive STEM facilities, performance and visual arts studios and designated 6th form areas.
