Job overview

English Teacher

We are seeking an enthusiastic and determined teacher to join our energetic and experienced English Department in January 2019.

The English department is a driving force for the school with exciting and committed department members lead by a highly experienced Head of Department.

The school is in an exciting phase, having recently joined the high performing Bourne Education Trust. We are eager to appoint exceptional individuals who wish to make a significant contribution to the learning and lives of our students. We have a proven track record of working with and developing newly qualified teachers and those ready for promotion.

Across our Trust we have many young staff who have made rapid career progression and taken up posts of responsibility within the first 3 years. We offer continued and comprehensive support for colleagues and deliver some of the best professional development.

We can offer you the chance to work in a school that, in the words of the Department of Education, has been transformed since working with the Bourne Education Trust. The next few years will see the school obtain high performance in public exams and be one of the leading schools in Basingstoke.

We are committed to providing the very best for our teachers. The benefits you can expect by working at Everest are:

  • A focus on staff well-being and a commitment to reducing staff workload
  • A shorter academic year (36.8 weeks per year), which means more holiday time and a good work-life balance
  • Outstanding NQT training and support
  • Manageable marking policy
  • Shared resources and lesson planning
  • Great opportunities for career progression
  • Whole school approach to rewards and our ‘Right to Learn’ strategy

We will make a commitment to induct and train our new teachers at the end of the Autumn term. This will be paid. We want to ensure that you are fully prepared for the start of your role in January. If you are a newly qualified teacher we will ensure a maximum teaching load of 80% and full participation in our newly qualified teacher programme so that you receive your qualified teacher status after three terms. You will also be assigned an experienced one to one subject mentor who will support your development and help you with planning, preparation and administration; you will also be working in a department that shares its lesson planning and resources. Furthermore, all our English classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards.

More about us

We are a fast paced and dynamic mixed comprehensive school meeting the needs of children of all abilities from 11-16 years, and we are set to welcome our biggest year group of new year 7s in September such is the community’s confidence in the new direction of the school.

We were obviously delighted with the swift progress being made by the school but are greedy for more. Our ideal candidates are energetic, ambitious (for themselves and their students), resilient and enthusiastic.

This post is ideal for those wanting to be part of a rapid transformation and eager to work in a school and trust that puts quality education for its students at its core.

Applications from NQTs and more experienced teachers are encouraged. Potential candidates are welcome to visit the school any time and meet the team.

Please feel free to apply immediately as we will interview candidates at the earliest convenience.
