Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of an experienced and interactive English Teacher on a full time, permanent basis at an independent school based in Central Bedfordshire. You will be adept at coaching students to see and lead through challenges in their learning, so they make the best possible progress in each and every lesson. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • To ensure documented lesson plans are delivered to meet the outcomes as set out in the relevant English Language and Literature curriculum and the relevant Examination Board specifications 
  • To deliver lessons via the preferred virtual learning environment (Canvas) utilising zoom technology 
  • To plan, implement and monitor schemes of work, lesson plans and student Self Directed Learning assignments for English. 
  • To ensure the Self-Directed Learning philosophy of the school is present in the opportunities presented to the students 
  • To develop and fully utilise assignments and tasks centred on the school virtual learning environment, including homework, quizzes and discussion forums 
  • To teach engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire and transform student attainment 
  • Use a wide range of resources and extracurricular activities to provide students with a broad range of activities and experiences in keeping with the school’s guidelines 
  • To set targets, based on prior attainments, and undertake effective, informative marking which will extend and develop all students 

You will: 

  • Have recent experience of teaching English to students in KS3 to KS5
  • Have knowledge of the National Curriculum for GCSE and A-Level English Language and Literature 
  • Have Qualified Teacher status, A-Levels in English Language and Literature and GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths 
  • Have good communication skills both written and verbal 
  • Ensure high standards are maintained, progressed and promoted in all areas of work 
  • To set an example of positive personal integrity and professionalism, with positive, appropriate, and effective communications and relationships at all levels 
  • Uphold and promulgate the school ethos within all areas of responsibility 
  • Contribute to, share in and promote the wider and longer-term vision of the school
