Job overview

We are looking for an English Teacher to join our outstanding school as we grow into our fifth year. The school offers exceptional opportunities for professional development and you will be joining an incredibly talented and supportive English team. The English department has an exemplary record of achieving outstanding outcomes through its enriching and exciting curriculum and robust assessment systems. This is a particularly exciting time to join the department as we look ahead to the opening of the Sixth Form in 2018. During the next academic year the department will be collaborating on creating a dynamic and exciting KS5 curriculum, therefore those with an interest in teaching A-level are encouraged to apply.

William Perkin Church of England High School opened in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students and now has four year groups (7, 8, 9 and 10) totalling around 775 students. We have had an incredibly positive journey so far and are rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016).

As an EBACC subject, all students in key stages 3 and 4 have a 50 minute English lesson every morning – our teachers are able to establish very positive and purposeful routines with their classes. We additionally offer core elective literacy classes in the afternoons to help our students who need extra support in English, and a variety of extended electives including the Perkin Post (student newspaper), Beanbag Bloggers (reading club) and a variety of theatre trips.

Students’ behaviour at the school is exemplary and there is an incredibly positive sense of community amongst students and staff, enabled by our whole school ethos and ‘Etiquette’. Our students understand the importance of English, enjoy the subject and genuinely care about the progress they are making. They are diligent and hardworking when it comes to prep, homework and revision, and are very mature and independent.

The new post-holder(s) will be joining us at a time of growth. The organisation therefore offers good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools. For more information please see the details below or visit the Trust website or William Perkin website. We firmly believe that any teacher who visits the school and sees for themselves the passion for English shared by both students and staff alike, as well as the outstanding behaviour routines, would relish the opportunity to teach at William Perkin. You are also welcome to visit us and see for yourself what an outstanding school William Perkin is. To arrange a visit, please email the Head of English, Sam Barnsley: sbarnsley@williamperkin.org.uk
