We are looking for an inspirational and highly motivated KS2/3 English teacher to join us in September 2023. This is a full time position to cover maternity leave. Cumnor House has long had a very strong reputation for an excellent academic provision that includes securing places for our children at the top Senior Schools in the South East and around the country, as well as winning numerous academic and co-curricular scholarships. It is a school rightly known for the warmth and strength of its community, the great breadth and depth of its educational provision, and its positive and supportive culture, all of which is encapsulated in its motto, ‘Aim High, Be Kind, Dare to be Different’. We are looking for a teacher who will add expertise, confidence and proficiency to our English provision, as well as giving great value both inside and outside of the classroom.

Teachers are Cumnor House Sussex are expected to deliver high quality lessons that ensure solid and measurable progress in the knowledge, skills and understanding of all our pupils, harnessing the enthusiasm and talent of each child. Our teachers also provide the essential social and emotional support necessary to ensure the wellbeing and healthy development of each child. Sensitive and encouraging communication skills are employed daily to keep parents fully and regularly informed on all aspects of their child’s progression. Our staff embody the values of the school, in and out of the classroom, promoting excellence, kindness, hard work, innovation, courage and creativity, so that pupils become confident and motivated learners.

 

 Desirable Personal Qualities and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status with evidence of CPD
  • Proven track record as a very successful English teacher at Key Stage 2 & 3, with involvement in the wider school activities
  •  Experience of teaching English to Common Entrance and Senior School Scholarship would be desirable
  • An active interest in changes and advances in teaching methods
  •  A clear understanding of the requirements and challenges of teaching children of varied abilities and levels of achievement
  • Confident knowledge of IT, with enthusiasm for teaching using educational IT resources
  • Demonstration of effective planning, evaluation and assessment, using data where beneficial
  • A positive, enthusiastic and cooperative approach to pupils, staff and parents alike
  • Commitment to the ethos of Cumnor House Sussex, and the breadth of education offered in a boarding Prep School
