Job overview

An exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher with a passion and interest in teaching English from Year 5, through to Common Entrance & Scholarship level (Year 8).

You may currently be working in the state or independent sector within a primary or secondary setting.

Based in Hampton, Twickenham Preparatory School is a flourishing, well-resourced and friendly independent co-educational day school for pupils from 4-13 years.  Located in stunning grounds near the River Thames and Bushy Park with direct rail links into London, the School has a reputation for being nurturing and pastorally strong with high academic standards and a broad curriculum.

There are currently about 280 pupils at the school with two classes in each year group from Reception. All of our girls leave at 11 mainly to independent day schools in the locality but most of our boys stay until 13 and sit Common Entrance for a wide variety of Independent Senior Schools. Numbers at the school are currently at a historical high with strong interest and waiting lists for entry.

We are looking to appoint a truly inspirational teacher who is excited about the opportunity to create and deliver engaging English lessons to our pupils, whilst ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning are maintained at all times.

Teaching English to small class sizes (max 19) you will be able to demonstrate your ability to inspire our pupils and assist them in developing their knowledge, confidence and creativity within the subject.

Self-motivated, innovative and outward-looking you will be an integral part of this highly successful department and part of a dedicated and supportive team.

With a generous School Fees Remission Scheme and a competitive TPS Pay Scale for teachers, this is a wonderful opportunity to join a Leading Preparatory School.

A willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities will be advantageous.

Applications are welcomed from NQT's who can demonstrate exceptional ability.

The Hub@51 is a statement of the School's commitment to provide outstanding modern provision for the children and features a digital media suite, including broadcasting cameras an editing station and a radio station. Plans include opportunities for children to record and broadcast podcasts and short films.

Sport plays an integral part of life at TPS, and is further enhanced by access to excellent local sports facilities. Pupils enjoy regular fixtures in rugby, football, cricket, netball, hockey and rounders, and teams compete in local and national tournaments.

TPS are proud of their pupils’ success nationally in chess and Think Tank, an innovative thinking programme. The School has been IAPS National Chess Champions in the U11 and U13 categories on several occasions over recent years.

Staff are experienced, caring, enthusiastic and committed and visitors to the School often comment on the positive and friendly atmosphere that is evident throughout the School.
