Job overview

Otahuhu College www.otahuhucollege.school.nz is a secondary school located in Aotearoa - Auckland New Zealand - and we are looking for an experienced English teacher to commence a permanent post in NZ's term 1, late January 2020  or as soon as possible thereafter by negotiation.

Otahuhu College is a Y9–13 school serving a largely Pacific Island and Maori population. Our students in many cases come from first or second-generation families who moved to New Zealand for a better life and for better opportunities for their children.  As a school, we are committed to increasing the number of students who go on to degree-level study. Our school has gone through a period of significant improvement in the past five years and we are looking for a dedicated teacher who will continue the good work and build on our students’ successes.

A team player, you will need to  be reliable, motivated and someone who can achieve results. Although we will consider excellent junior  or NQT teachers,  applicants will ideally have experience of delivering the UK High School English curriculum or another equivalent English curriculum to all year levels  and should detail any other skills (Media or Film studies, Drama, etc) in their application.

All applicants must be qualified teachers, ie have a degree and trained teacher qualification. Remuneration will depend on qualifications and experience and wil be set according to the state payscale as laid out in the NZ secondary teachers contract.  A NZ Ministry of Education International relocation grant of NZ $5,000 will apply if you are an overseas teacher or NZ $7,000 if you are a returning Kiwi.

Support and guidance  through the emigration process will be provided to the successful applicant as we realise the process of coming to NZ to teach and live can be a daunting prospect.

To register your application for this post or for further information please promptly forward a CV and cover letter to the Manager: secondary@oasis-edu.co.nz

Otahuhu College is a co-educational secondary school based in Auckland in New Zealand.

The school opened in 1931 as the Otahuhu Junior High School. In 1933, it became known as the Otahuhu Technical High School, with a capacity to cater for students through to senior levels of study. In 1947, it was renamed Otahuhu College. In 1932, the school was divided into houses: Grey, Hobson, Massey and Seddon. This division was originally intended for inter-house activities (which is still the case) but cultural activities have also now been included as house based activities. The school has now become a culturally diverse secondary school with a maximum student roll of approximately 1,400. Its facilities include extensive playing fields, a large gym, and a swimming pool. There is also a large assembly hall, a drama theatre, specialist laboratories, computer labs, workshops for wood and metal technology and specialist rooms for food and fabric technology. The school also has a new and well-equipped library with several computer suites. There are specialist art rooms, an English language reception centre, special education units, a modern music suite, a dance and drama suite and a technology block.
