Job overview

Due to expansion The Howard School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher of English who is committed to excellence from September 2019.

This post would suit an experienced teacher or an NQT with good prospects for career development.  The successful applicant would teach KS3 to KS5.   The successful candidate will be a creative and dynamic practitioner who will be able to contribute to the development of our thriving English Department and help drive forward our agenda of continuous improvement.

The English Department is a busy and cohesive department who work together to achieve the best for students and we are looking for a member of staff to play an active role in raising the profile of the English Department.  This supportive environment is reflected across the school.

This is an exciting time to join The Howard with a number of significant changes planned for the near future that will support our move towards excellence. If you are an imaginative and energetic practitioner and want to make a difference to the life-chances of all the students in your care then this could be the post for you.

As a school we are determined to ensure The Howard is the best school in Medway and beyond in which to teach, work and develop.  Our success has been built on the commitment, professionalism and aspirations of our staff.  It is a place where people want to work as there are opportunities for progression. I hope my resolve to take the school to the next level is evident and, while I recognise that this is by no means easy, that this is the very least we should be doing for our community. The successful candidate will be someone who is genuinely up for the challenge. In return, we can promise an investment in you and your future, offering a competitive remuneration package, providing first class professional development and career opportunities.

We value our teachers and actively support their professional development, and have redesigned our working week from September 2017 to place even greater emphasis on staff development. You will have access to on-going professional development including National College accredited courses.  If you are looking to extend your experience and would be interested in joining our team, we would be delighted to hear from you.

As a school, our local and national reputation where our outcomes challenge the stereotypical view of underachievement in young men continues to grow, as does the perception that we hold to traditional values in standards of behaviour and uniform. We are an innovative and creative school, responding to the ever-changing needs of our students and the demands from higher education and employers. We have implemented a number of exciting changes in recent years to support our drive towards excellence.

The Howard School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. References will be taken up for those candidates short-listed for interview. The successful candidate will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

We reserve the right to alter our interview dates and close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response.

The Howard Academy Trust Limited is an equal opportunities employer.
