Job overview

KTJ is an independent, co-educational school for 950 students aged 3 – 19. Our Primary day school follows the British National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum while our secondary boarding school, modelled on a British style education, offers IGCSE and A levels.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and collegial teachers wishing to join a warm and friendly boarding community, who are prepared to participate fully in our extensive extra-curricular activities programme. The position would suit either young teachers or established teachers looking for a teaching position in South East Asia. The students are truly delightful and many teachers who arrive at the school are pleasantly surprised by the fact that they are able to come here and teach!

The English Department is one of the core departments of the school, with a curriculum at KS3 that prepares all students for English as a First Language or English as a Second Language at IGCSE and, for students who choose this option, English Literature at both IGCSE and A level. The Cambridge International syllabuses are used for all public examinations and recent, significant progress in results has been made at AS, A2 and First Language IGCSE. For the future, we are looking to develop so that similar progress is made in all public examinations. English lessons are delivered in subject-specific classrooms by a dedicated team that is made up of six teachers as well as a Second in Department and a Head of Department.  The English language abilities of students cover a wide range and therefore teachers need to be able to adapt their teaching for students for whom English is not their first language.

Candidates should be above 22 years old (in keeping with Malaysian visa laws) and have had at least 2 years’ teaching experience focused on student-centred learning and competence in the use of ICT.  An interest in becoming involved in the boarding life of the school would be advantageous.  Applicants should be able to teach A level English.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a variety of teaching methodologies;
  • Differentiate according to individual student needs;
  • Communicate clearly and accurately;
  • Engage and motivate students;
  • Encourage both independent and collaborative learning;
  • Use assessment to inform teaching and learning;
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness;
  • Possess highly developed ICT competencies.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be subject to security vetting.

Please apply via https://apply.uptic.net/school/ktj Contact details of three referees, which should include your immediate supervisor and current Head of School  will be required.

Closing date: 5th March, 2018.
