Job overview

Be part of an exciting and creative school near Haverhill for young people with autism and/or social, emotional and mental health needs.

About Us

Broadlands Hall School has recently been approved by OFSTED and DfE to cater for up to 50 boys aged between 9 – 20 years old, most of whom are on the autistic spectrum with associated learning disabilities. The school is currently expanding from the initial 25 to 50 over the next year. We are a unique school who offer a bespoke, personalise curriculum to our young people.

We are now looking for an English teacher to join the school in our Secondary section.

The Role

We are looking for a secondary teacher with a specialism in English to work with our boys who are cognitively in the Secondary level.

Our young people mostly receive one-to-one teaching and support; and the staff are dedicated to reaching every students potential. This includes preparing them for life outside of our children’s homes with life skills such as preparation of meals, gardening and looking after themselves, to taking GCSEs and other appropriate examinations. The School is extremely well resourced and it is set in beautiful grounds which gives the students further opportunities for outdoor learning. Broadlands Hall School is proud to be rated by Ofsted as Good with Outstanding features.

You will be responsible for supporting the Teaching and learning with students, working to ensure the curriculum matches the ability of the young people while maximising their potential to progress. You will work with a team of LSAs and support them with planning, assessments, training etc.

If you have experience of working with students who have an Autism diagnosis, that will be an advantage but is not required. Our current staff team come from a range of experiences and backgrounds; for example, parents, care homes, primary, secondary and special schools.

You will care passionately about each student as an individual, be able to observe and listen and then respond to advice. You will be able to implement strategies for raising achievement across the curriculum and be committed to your further professional development. You will be non-judgemental, resilient and unconditionally accepting.

You will be confident and happy to work with children of any age or ability. Some of our students have communication difficulties associated with their diagnosis. They need support to make the most of their talents and abilities. Broadlands Hall School is well staffed and committed to the professional development of all.

All staff at Broadlands Hall School benefit from a 50% fee reduction for their children if they wish to send them to our Prep school nearby, Barnardiston Hall Preparatory School.

Staff are on Main Pay Scale up to MPS 6. The School also operates a pension scheme. Snacks and lunch are also provided.

All applications will be considered immediately on receipt and so early applications are advised.

Broadlands Hall School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate vetting procedures and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS with Barred List check

Should you like to discuss the post further, arrange a visit or request an Application Form please contact the School Secretary, Mrs Lena More: admin@broadlandshall.co.uk or on 01440 702559
