A General introduction to Winpenny School

Situated to the north west of Mexico City, in the borough of Cuajimalpa, Winpenny School’s Mexico City Campus offers modern and attractive facilities in a vibrant city setting. Winpenny provides the perfect opportunity for creative, innovative and passionate teachers who wish to be part of a diverse academic team committed to preparing today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders. If you want to make a difference, whilst also developing your professional career and personal life experiences, then this is the place for you.

The campus currently caters for over 500 students from 3 to 18 years of age from diverse backgrounds, however the majority of our students are Mexican making for a very stable student community. Our international curriculum is taught through the medium of English with Spanish subject material from the Mexican national curriculum woven into the programme. Winpenny students develop excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish and graduate more than prepared for competing in an increasingly globalized world. Winpenny is a friendly community with parents taking a keen interest in their children’s education. Winpenny children love their school, are well mannered and enthusiastic to learn.

Many foreign academic staff choose to live in the bohemian downtown districts of Mexico City close to the Condesa and Polanco areas and travel to school either independently or on our school bus service. Living preferences can be discussed with our dedicated team who are here to support you with documentation and relocation processes in order to ensure a smooth transition to living and working in Mexico.

The COVID pandemic has made everyone’s lives more complicated and here at Winpenny School we are dedicated to both your personal and professional wellbeing. In Mexico City schools have remained closed since the start of the academic year and will not open until it is safe to do so. Our team has worked hard to support all members of our community and our staff and student population has remained stable throughout. In actual fact we have virtually zero staff turnover this year and we are only advertising positions due to the opening of additional classroom spaces for improved social distancing.

Whilst we are currently recruiting for our Mexico City campus, it is worth being aware of the fact that Winpenny has been awarded the contract to open a new, state of the art, international school in the Riviera Maya, along Mexico’s Caribbean coast. This exciting new initiative is currently under development with the school expected to open in August, 2022. For teachers with a slightly longer term view on teaching in Mexico this is an unparalleled opportunity for further career development in one of the most beautiful parts of the Mexican Republic.

The School’s academic programme

At Winpenny School we have a clearly articulated international curriculum that supports student growth and development from their early years through to graduation

Early Years

Teaching and learning follows the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC). The IEYC uses international best practice, holistic enquiry and play-based approaches that cover all curriculum areas including personal goals.

Primary

At the primary level, our classes are based around the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and Cambridge Primary English and Mathematics. With the IPC children learn about the world through thematic units that are creative, challenging and fun, designed to appeal to children’s burgeoning interests. Each unit has specific subject goals for all primary subjects including science, history, geography, music, physical education, art and technology, personal goals, and uniquely, international goals.

Lower Secondary

The curriculum for Grades 6 to 8 is based around the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). This concept-based curriculum is built around clear learning goals and incorporates best practices from a number of renowned international and national curricula from around the world.

Upper Secondary

Winpenny School is an IB World School and offers the Diploma Programme (DP) for Grades 11 and 12. This programme was adopted through the firm belief that it is of the utmost importance to offer our students a high-quality, challenging, international education. The Diploma Programme is recognised worldwide for its holistic approach and students’ preparedness for higher education and the world at large.

In Grades 9 and 10, students follow the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme. In each subject, students follow a two-year course which culminates in a final assessment. Cambridge IGCSE is the leading international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds and is recognised by universities and employers worldwide.
