The Role

Sir Bernard Lovell Academy Is thrilled to be recruiting for an exceptional person to join our successful English department.

At post- 16 we offer AQA English Language and Literature.

Most of the English classrooms are situated in and around The Hub, a bright and welcoming space. Interactive whiteboards are available in all English rooms. All staff have use of a laptop.

The Department

The English team is a dedicated and highly supportive department consisting of ten teachers. We have traditionally worked collaboratively on devising schemes of learning and are keen to share expertise and ideas to achieve the best outcomes for our students. We use meeting time to discuss teaching and learning and moderate work from all years to ensure consistency and the monitoring of progress of students.

Life at School

We aim to encourage students to be independent learners and to develop a positive, self-critical approach to their English work through peer and self-assessment. We endeavour to challenge and include all students and are proud of the positive relationships that we have created with our students.

The School

In addition to curricular activities the team have provided enrichment opportunities which include arranging for visiting companies to perform to key stage 3 and 4 groups; arranging visits to the theatre to see set and non-set texts; organising events to celebrate World Book and Poetry Days; organising ‘Readathon’ activities for fund raising, and book groups.
