Job overview

Grade:  MPS/UPS plus possibility of TLR

We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and committed teacher with a passion for English to join our school and become part of the school’s continuing journey towards ‘Outstanding’.

We want the best for our students, so you will need to be an excellent teacher with a track record of success, with the knowledge and experience of teaching English at GCSE.  This is a permanent post.

You also need to be an individual who can inspire and engage students across the age and ability range. However, in return we can offer a wealth of opportunities and friendly working environment where we support one another in our common goal of encouraging our students to dream, aspire and achieve. If you decide to apply for this post you will be joining an Academy with a desire to build on our many achievements, where hard work and excellence are rewarded

Airedale Academy is an 11-18 school located in the former industrial heartland of Yorkshire, at the junction of the M62 and A1. We have been a standalone academy since April 2011 – one of the first of the new wave of good and outstanding schools who chose to convert to academy status. Our school is at the heart of the local community and we have strong links with our partner primary schools – a relationship which, in August 2014, led to the development of our single academy trust into a multi-academy Trust with three of our feeder primary schools. Our MAT was formed with the sole purpose of providing a network of support across the pyramid so that we stand together as a strong unit where the ethos for all is ‘children first’ and brings a wealth of opportunities for those who wish to broaden their teaching experience across a range of key stages.

We believe in trying our best to ensure that staff are happy and fulfilled in their work and receive the training and support they need to perform their role. We offer a very full programme of CPD for staff and we are also a strategic partner in the Outwood Teaching School Alliance, which gives us access to a range of development programmes for staff at all levels. We believe in supporting staff to achieve a good work-life balance and our wellbeing programme includes a range of benefits including break-time refreshments, access to fitness facilities and visits by a car valet company, as well as regular staff social events.

There’s no denying that the catchment we serve is an area of high socio-economic deprivation, and some of the children who join our school have a difficult home-life, but irrespective of their background the overwhelming majority of our students are polite, well-behaved and willing to learn – and the handful that aren’t are dealt with swiftly through our robust behaviour management systems. For us, though, a student’s background is no reason for them not to aspire to be the best they can be, and we can count Oxbridge graduates, participants in prestigious business intern programmes and actors on blockbuster movies amongst our former students.

Prospective applicants are warmly encouraged to visit the Academy before applying – we’re exceptionally proud of our school and its pupils, and love to show visitors around. Please call us to make an appointment.

For an informal discussion regarding the post please contact the HR Department, Airedale Academy on 01977 664558. For further details and to apply visit www.airedaleacademy.com or email  HRAAT@airedaleacademy.com for an application form.

Closing date for applications:   3pm, Thursday 19th October 2017 - We reserve the right to close any vacancies from further submissions, when we have received sufficient applications from which to make a shortlist. Please ensure you apply without delay if you wish to be considered for this role. If you have not heard from us within 4 weeks from the closing date please assume your application has been unsuccessful

Date of Interview: 30th or 31st October 2017
