Job overview

Octavia House Therapeutic Schools

Octavia House Therapeutic Schools are innovative independent special schools for boys & girls aged 5-14 with severe & complex social, emotional & mental health difficulties.

We are looking for a qualified, highly committed, passionate and exceptionally well-organised English teacher to join our unique therapeutic schools for boys in Years 7 to 9 in Walworth, Southwark from Easter 2016 (or sooner, by negotiation).

You must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (NQTs are welcome to apply)
  • A commitment and ability to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for our extremely challenging pupils who all have complex SEMH difficulties
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • An exemplary record of attendance and punctuality
  • An intrinsic commitment to safeguarding children
  • A great sense of humour and a very high level of resilience!

In return, we provide:

  • More generous pay scales than the maintained sector and opportunities for immediate or more gradual additional curricular responsibilities & career progression
  • A comprehensive programme of continuing professional development, including bespoke training from our team of therapists!
  •  A friendly and supportive working environment
  • Performance management and mentoring from a dedicated line manager

Experience of working within an SEN setting with pupils with SEMH is desirable, but not essential. Attitude, ambition and the ability to rapidly form positive & productive working relationships are what count most.

Octavia House Schools are committed to the safeguarding of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. All successful applicants will be subject to various vetting checks, including an enhanced DBS check.
